Two Central Division opponents take the ice Saturday as the Nashville Predators and the Colorado Avalanche try to make their respective runs at the postseason.
Nashville
The Nashville Predators have been playing much better hockey lately and it couldn’t be coming at a more ideal time.
With 76 points, the Predators are tied for 7th in the Western Conference with the San Jose Sharks and are hoping to gain some ground on both the St. Louis Blues and the Dallas Stars in the Central Division.

Nashville is 7-0-3 in its last 10 games and has won its last four games away from home.
The Predators struggled badly to score goals during the first half of the season, but they seem to have found their groove now. Nashville is 12th in goals and 10th in both shots on goal and the power play.
And goaltender Pekka Rinne, who had an awful start to the season, is starting to settle in as well.
The Predators have struggled against divisional opponents this year, but this is a winnable game against a Colorado team that’s quickly faded out of the playoff picture.
Colorado
After a hot start to the season, the Colorado Avalanche have gone ice cold.
The team that was once top-five in goals is now tied for 14th with just 2.65 per game.
The Avs have averaged more than 3 goals per game over their last four games, but the defense is what continues to drive them further and further down the standings.
Colorado ranks 22nd in goals allowed, 29th in shots on goal allowed and 18th on the penalty kill. Goaltender Semyon Varlamov has a 2.79 GAA mark which is one of the worst among NHL starting goaltenders.

Despite the Avs struggles, they’ve fared well against the Central Division with a 12-6-2 record.
They could really use these two points to stay alive in the playoff picture, but they’ll have to fight for them against one of the NHL’s hottest teams.
