After splitting the games in Dallas, the St. Louis Blues came home and really sent a message.
A Game 3 route put the Blues up 2 games to 1 and they’ll now look to take control of the series with a win here in Game 4 in St. Louis on Thursday.
St. Louis Blues
The Blues had to grind their way to a 4-3 overtime win in Game 2, but it completely changed the complexion of this series.
St. Louis came home and put up a 6 spot on the Stars in a 6-1 route. St. Louis led 2-1 after one period and with multi goal performances from David Backes and Alexander Steen, the Blues pulled away.

St. Louis extended their home record to 27-14-4-1 this year. They continue to be one of the best defensive home teams in the league, as they hold the opposition to just 2.30 goals per game.
G Brian Elliot turned away 25 of 26 shots faced, as his solid postseason continues. He’s allowed 6 goals this series through the first 3 games, but he really came up clutch down the stretch of Game 2 to keep St. Louis from going down 2-0.
Dallas Stars
Dallas is always vulnerable to allow a lot of goals. That was such the case in Game 3 as their offense wasn’t working and it turned into a lot of counter attacks and wide open shots for the Blues.
Dallas has averaged well above 3 goals per game this season, but a lone first period goal was all they could muster as their sketchy defense collapsed once again. The Stars have conceded 3.07 goals against on the road, which is one of the worst in the NHL.
While it’s unclear who will be in net for Dallas here in Game 4, they at least have that benefit of 2 options.

It was Kari Lehtonen who started the game, but was pulled after 3 goals. However, his backup Antti Niemi faced just 12 shots and allowed 3 goals as well.
While it does benefit the Stars in having two goalies, they still need to find some consistency from one of them.
