The Dallas Stars travel to upstate New York to face a struggling and injury-riddled Sabres squad. Both teams come into this game outside of the playoff picture, but these two points can help these teams greatly as we get ready for the All-Star break.
Dallas Stars
The Dallas Stars finished last season with more than 100 points and one of the NHL’s most lethal offenses. Led by forwards Jamie Benn and Tyler Seguin, Dallas was a forced to be reckoned with offensively.
And with putrid goaltending, it was the offense that kept the team alive all season long last year. Unfortunately for the Stars, the same anemic goaltending remains, but the offense has been nowhere to be found.

The Stars rank just 17th in goals, but 26th in goals allowed and 29th on the penalty kill. Goaltenders Antii Niemi and Kari Lethtonen have both been atrocious as they each have GAA hovering around the 3.00 mark. Dallas is going to need its offense to get going if they want to make the postseason.
We all know their goaltending isn’t going to help.
Buffalo Sabres
The young Buffalo Sabres will be a threat to the rest of the Eastern Conference in a few years, but they’re still well into the rebuilding process.
Led by 20-year-old phenom Jack Eichel, the Sabres are just one point ahead of the New York Islanders for the Eastern Conference’s worst record. Despite the poor record, the Sabres still have a bright future ahead of them.

Unfortunately, all of those young pieces have been bitten by the injury bug this year, and it’s prohibited them from generating any consistency thus far. Eichel, Evander Kane and Ryan O’Reilly have all missed time to injury, and it’s been tough to replicate their production.
Much like the Stars, the Sabres have a pair of goaltenders who aren’t very good. Robin Lehner and Anders Nilsson don’t have GAAs quite as high as Lethonen and Niemi, but neither have done anything to stand out.
They might be special in due time, but neither one of them is anything special at the moment.
NHL Betting Trends:
- Stars are 6-11-4 on the road.
- Stars are 2-6-3 vs. the Eastern Conference.
- Stars O/U is 5-1 in their last 6 games.
- Sabres are 7-3-2 vs. the Western Conference.
- Sabres O/U is 4-1 in their last 5 games.
Free Dallas Stars vs. Buffalo Sabres NHL Hockey Prediction:
Neither team is playing well at the moment, but the Stars are in a much better position to make the postseason. This game could go either way, but I’ll side with the Sabres since they’ve dominated the Western Conference this season.
