The annual battle for Florida (I think these teams meet every preseason).
The outlooks are solid in both camps. Jacksonville continues to get better and this year could be a breakthrough if the defense makes a leap.
Tampa has enough pieces to be a factor in the NFC South.
Kick off is set for 7:30 PM ET. These teams met in the regular season with TB winning 38-31 at home.
I wouldn’t expect that kind of scoring in this one but it should be pretty entertaining considering the stage of the season we are at.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers
The Bucs are heading in a new direction with Dirk Koetter as coach. He is a strong offensive mind and the move makes sense as they look to maximize QB Jameis Winston – who will likely see little action in this contest.
The offense was productive last year but the team won just six games so I guess something had to give.
The defensive numbers also weren’t terrible in terms of yards but the overall results had to have been disappointing.
Winston is about as entrenched as could be after his strong rookie campaign.
Backup QBs are always a factor in preseason handicapping and the Bucs are solid there with Mike Glennon who was in the mix before Winston arrived.
The Bucs want to be more aggressive on defense this season and drafted to support that strategy with Vernon Hargeaves at CB in the first and LB Noah Spence in the second.
We could see them on the field and I am curious how the defense is overall this season.
I am not sure the Bucs are ready to challenge Carolina this season but I am optimistic about what they can do at this point.
The Jags are looking to continue their slow rise to respectability. The good news is that they can probably get there now that Blake Bortles has proven to be a promising quarterback. If you don’t have one of those you have no chance.
The interesting thing is that even though coach Gus Bradley was from the Pete Carroll/Seattle coaching tree he has not been able to get the defense anywhere close to that level.
More reinforcements came this offseason in both the draft and free agency. They are really trying to get that side of the ball to tip.
Bortles will not be put in harm’s way too much this preseason and the guys behind him are nothing special.
I didn’t even know that Chad Henne was still in the league until I started writing this piece and Brandon Allen and Max Wittek are meh.
The drafting of versatile Myles Jack caused a stir and I am hoping we will see him in this one just to get a feel.
I am hoping it works out for the kid.

4* Free NFL Betting Prediction: Tampa Bay +3
Preseason is always a tough handicap but I like the visitors here. They should be able to sustain drives and puts points on the board. Will probably win outright.
