A few years ago a San Francisco vs. Seattle matchup would be the highlight game of the week. Pitting two extraordinary defenses against one another the two would clash on the gridiron with the nation tuned in to watch.
But that was two years ago, and things have changed.
For one, San Francisco has lost its “pop”. The 49ers, now helmed by Chip Kelly and led offensively by Blaine Gabbert, still have Kaepernick on the roster but he is making headlines elsewhere.

Seattle, meanwhile, may have just as tenacious of a defense but has seemingly lost its ability to put points on the board due to an inexperienced offensive line that is hurting Russell Wilson.
None of this minimizes the week two clash between the teams, however, as both are looking to establish an identity.
Kickoff is slated for 4:25 PM EST and this one should be a fun offensive slugfest.
San Francisco 49ers
The 49ers were tough to judge after week one.
They crushed the St. Louis Rams at home 28-0 and looked surprisingly well put together despite yet another coaching change, system, and quarterback.

Many chalked it up to being St. Louis being terrible, but there were still some saying the 49ers could be a surprise team in 2016.
Then San Francisco hit the road to take on the Panthers and got throttled.
Despite putting 27 points on the board San Francisco gave up 46 — YES, 46! — to Cam Newton and Carolina. So much for a stifling defense, though there is something to be said about San Francisco hanging around for awhile in this one.
After throwing for 170 yards and a TD against the Rams Gabbert tossed for 243 yards and two TDs against a good Carolina defense.
He did, however, have two critical INTs and couldn’t keep up with the Panthers’ offense, as the home team pulled away in the end.
Defensively the 49ers are tough to gauge. They looked stout against the Rams, but then again it was the Rams, and they gave up points in bunches to a potent Panthers team.
Looking ahead to Seattle, San Francisco should be able to get a great push up front, thus limiting the productivity of an already unproductive unit.
Seattle Seahawks
For some strange reason the Seahawks are never good against the Rams.
Favored in their week two contest, Seattle looked completely flat on the offensive side of the ball in a 9-3 loss where their offensive line looked putrid and their tempo was non-existent.
With Russell Wilson already ailing from a week one injury this was an offensive performance tough to watch as the Rams keyed on Seattle’s rushing attack and forced Wilson to try and win the game through the air, which wasn’t going to happen with the line and injury he played with.
Defensively Seattle still looks like a force, though they are once again tough to judge since they have faced Miami and St. Louis this season.
Still, with Michael Bennett, Kam Chancellor, Richard Sherman, Bobby Wagner, and Earl Thomas PLUS the ever-present 12th Man of Centurylink Field, the Seahawks should have a fun time throwing different looks at Blaine Gabbert and San Francisco.

4* Free NFL Betting Prediction: Under 40.5
I was a bit surprised to see the Seahawks favored by 9.5 in this one and fully expect San Francisco to make this game a lot closer than many are expecting it to be, especially with it being a critical game for them to establish a true team identity.

But if you’re expecting an offensive showcase you are going to be extremely disappointed, as Seattle’s offensive line is too questionable and San Francisco has to play against Seattle’s defense in what will be a roaring Centurylink Field.
I see a TD or two from both sides but this will be a classic, low-scoring affair between the 49ers and Seahawks.
NFL Free Score Prediction: San Francisco 10 – Seattle 17
In the end I think the difference in this one will be Centurylink Field and Seattle’s defense. While the Seahawks offense has much work to do,
I see them getting a couple scores on big plays from Russell Wilson, perhaps to the speedy Paul Richardson or Tyler Lockett as San Francisco will force the Hawks to win the game through the air.
Meanwhile Seattle’s defense will limit San Francisco and Chip Kelly’s offense as the Seahawks last saw Kelly’s scheme in 2014 and held Philadelphia to 14 points.
Expect this one to be a slugfest with a couple key turnovers to give the Seahawks a much-needed win.
