This matchup on Sunday afternoon has San Diego traveling to Carolina looking for their 6th win of the season.
Kick off is set for 1:00 PM ET with QB Phillip Rivers getting the start for the Chargers against Cam Newton of the Panthers.
San Diego Chargers
San Diego has struggled closing out games all season long, and last week’s loss to the Bucs showed that in full display.
Phillip Rivers had an up and down game against the Tampa Bay defense.

He finished the day 15-26 for 225 yards. He also threw 2 touchdowns and 2 interceptions. Rivers is still one of the better quarterbacks in the league.
He is going up against a Panthers defense that had a tough time stopping Russell Wilson, so look for Rivers to put up big numbers in this back and forth contest.
Melvin Gordon has been one of the bright spots for the Chargers this year. The 2nd year back has a nose for the end zone and has performed consistently well on a week to week basis. Last week against the Tampa Bay front seven he had 84 yards rushing and 54 yards receiving.
The Panthers couldn’t stop Thomas Rawls as he gashed them for over 100 yards and a score. Gordon should put up similar numbers in this contest and get his 11th and 12th touchdowns of the season.

Tyrell Williams has been a surprise in the receiving corps for the Chargers this year. The talented wideout had 2 catches for 47 yards against Tampa Bay, but did haul in a touchdown grab.
He has scored in 4 straight games and goes up against a Carolina secondary that has 2 rookies manning the corner positions, so it will be a 5th straight game with a touchdown for Williams.
Carolina Panthers
Carolina is a surprising 5-5, is this a Super Bowl hangover? Cam Newton and the offense has struggled for most of the year, and last week’s beat down by the Seahawks clearly showed that the team is missing a few pieces to be a contender in the NFC.
Last year’s MVP Cam Newtown has struggled throwing the ball all season long, and has only 2 games with over 300 yards passing. An injury to Seahawks safety Earl Thomas still didn’t see Newton do much damage to the Seahawks secondary.
The Chargers aren’t known for shutting down passing attacks, but I still don’t expect Cam and the Panthers passing game to make great strides this week.
Jonathan Stewart has had a pretty poor season running the ball for Carolina. He did find mild success against the Seahawks front seven as he ran for 50 yards on 11 carries. He did fumbled the ball once and will need to keep the ball out of the defenses hands as San Diego can score quickly.

The Chargers did a good job of stopping Doug Martin last week, so I don’t think Stewart will be able to put up good numbers against Joey Bosa and the Chargers D-line.
Greg Olsen was shut down by the Seattle secondary last week, so look for a big bounce back game from him. He will find the end zone and reach the 75 yards receiving mark.

- Chargers are 9-1 ATS in their last 10 games in Week 14.

- Panthers are 1-3-1 ATS vs. a team with a losing record.
4* Free NFL Betting Prediction: Chargers ATS
This will be a back and forth game for much of the first half, but San Diego will pull away in the 4th.
NFL Free Score Prediction: San Diego 28 – Carolina 17
The defense puts the clamp down in the second half and Carolina won’t be able to move the ball.
