This important NFC East divisional matchup features two of the three teams in the division with records about .500 – something of a shock after the performance of the division last season.
The Eagles took their first loss of the season last week at Detroit while the Washington defense finally showed up and led the way to the Redskins third straight victory.
Philadelphia Eagles
A slow start hurt the Eagles last week coming off of their bye and a couple of late game turnovers cost them the game after fighting back from a 21 point deficit.

Carson Wentz had his first turnover of his young career – a game ending interception to Darius Slay on a play that Nelson Agholor did Wentz no favors.
A limiter of Wentz’s success this season could be the play of his receivers as Jordan Matthews seems to have an issue with drops while Agholor at times looks like he lacks the desire to go get the ball and costs his team potential big plays.
However, Wentz has surprised many and gotten the Eagles off to a 3-1 start in what many thought would be a forgotten season for Philadelphia.

Wentz and the Eagles will get their first divisional test of the young season and it will be a very important one. Washington has rebounded from their first two losses and the Cowboys are looking as dangerous as ever led by their rookie duo.
Every divisional game is huge and that has proven to be even more true in the NFC East over the last bunch of years and it frequently comes down to the last week of the season to determine its winner.
Wentz could have himself a nice day against a Redskin defense that is allowing its opponents to complete 68.8 percent of its passes.
Washington does have 4 interceptions and 11 sacks on the year so Wentz will have to recover quickly mentally from his late game interception and handle the pressure that Washington will send his way.
Doug Peterson has done a great job gameplanning for his rookie quarterback and you can imagine he will help Wentz out by getting him rolling early with short easy passes and passes away from All-Pro cornerback Josh Norman.
Washington Redskins
Two losses to start the season had it looking like last season’s NFC East winner would be buried early in this season.
However, they have responded with three straight wins and their defense finally stepped up and in a big way last week.
After giving up 31 per game in their first three, Washington gave up 20 in a 11 point victory over the Browns and then gave up 10 last week in a win over the Ravens.
A huge reason for their win last week was their third down defense. Washington allowed Baltimore to convert just 3-15 third down attempts.
That could continue this week against an Eagles offense that has converted just 33 percent of their third down attempts this season.

Kirk Cousins will need to do a better job of protecting the football though as he has 5 interceptions through 5 games this season and you can’t give this Eagles offense any extra opportunities or a short field.
Cousins was lucky on his interception last week as CJ Mosley fumbled it on the return as he dove into the end zone which resulted in a touchback. That throw by Cousins should’ve cost the Redskins the game.
Washington’s run game has been non-existent this season and that won’t get easier against the solid Eagles run defense. It will be up to Cousins to air it out and lead the Redskins towards a win.
NFL Betting Trends:
- Washington is 5-2 ATS in their last 7 games as a home underdog.
- Philadelphia is 1-3 ATS in their last 4 games as a road favorite.
- Washington is 23-15 ATS in their last 38 divisional games.
4* Free NFL Betting Prediction: Washington +2.0
I would imagine this game moves towards a pick’em as it gets closer to gametime.
However, I like the Redskins to roll for their fourth straight victory as Wentz recovers from his first loss and adjusts to his first divisional game in the tough NFC East.
NFL Free Score Prediction: Washington 24 – Philadelphia 17
An early schedule of Cleveland and Chicago had Wentz rolling but divisional games will be much different and this will be his first test.
