So, it is clear that the Vikings are going all in on their 2016 season. After losing Teddy Bridgewater for the entire season – and maybe longer, Minnesota went out and got Sam Bradford.
They paid a steep price for a historically average quarterback by giving up a first rounder but their intentions are clear.
With their future Hall of Fame running back starting to age and their defense looking strong, Minnesota doesn’t want to let another season pass without making a run for a Super Bowl title.
Bradford will hope to lead them into that territory – despite never appearing in a playoff game.
Minnesota Vikings
Bridgewater didn’t actually steal the show with his statistics last season but he did what the Vikings needed him to do.

He protected the football and played into the efficient Minnesota offense that relies heavily on the run game. Bridgewater turned the ball over just 10 times last season.
Bradford’s decision making isn’t quite as sharp. He threw 14 interceptions in 14 games last season and has a career completion percentage of just 60 percent.
This season, the Vikings will likely look to follow the Denver Broncos model of using their defense to win a championship. Minnesota was the 5th best scoring defense in the NFL last season.

They were also the 5th best third down defense in the league a year ago.
However, they struggled to force turnovers – ranking tied for 18th in takeaways last season. The offense had the 4th fewest giveaways in 2015.
So, the defense was certainly good but if Bradford puts them in tough spots by turning the ball over – it is unclear how they will hold up.
This week of practice will determine whether Bradford or veteran backup Shaun Hill gets the start this Sunday but I would expect both to be a big dropoff from Bridgewater.
It is unfair to expect any quarterback to pick up an offensive system in under a week.
Bradford may turn out to be the savior of the 2016 Vikings season but it won’t appear that way during Week 1.
Tennessee Titans
After rookie quarterback Marcus Mariota went wild in Week 1 last season, it appeared the Titans rebuilding project could be a short one.
That didn’t prove to be the case though as the Titans won just two games after their Week 1 42-14 victory over the Bucs in Tampa.
However, the 3-13 season can’t really be blamed on Mariota. He played relatively well in his 12 starts with a 91.5 quarterback rating and 62.1 completion percentage.
The big issue was this: Mariota also ranked 2nd on the team in rushing yards. This wasn’t due to Mariota running wild and tearing up opposing defenses.
He ran for just 252 yards last season but other than that, the run game was virtually non-existent. Antonio Andrews was their leading rusher running for 520 yards on just 3.6 yards per carry.
So, the Titans went out and got DeMarco Murray and drafted Derrick Henry. They also used the 8th overall pick to take an offensive tackle to protect Mariota who was sacked 38 times in 12 games.

They also took 2 defensive linemen early in the second round.
The Titans will hope their pass rush could bother Bradford/Hill enough to force some turnovers. The Titans forced the 8th fewest turnovers last season.
NFL Betting Trends:
- Over was 9-6-1 for the Titans last season
- Under was 4-12-1 for the Vikings last season
- Minnesota was 14-3 ATS last season
- Tennessee was 4-11-1 ATS last season
4* Free NFL Betting Prediction: Titans +2.0
Consider that oddsmakers are looking to adjust after these two teams were the most lopsided ATS teams all of last season.
Also, insert Bradford or Hill for Week 1 instead of Bridgewater and this will be a much different Minnesota team than the one that crushed the spread last year.
NFL Free Score Prediction: Tennessee 26 – Minnesota 17
Whether it is Bradford or Hill, Minnesota shouldn’t have high expectations for the quarterback play in Week 1.
Tennessee could be one of those teams that takes a big step in 2016 and look for it to start in their opener.
