The former #1 overall pick that usurped Peyton Manning’s reign in Indy, will face Manning’s current replacement in Denver, Trevor Siemian, who has one career start to his name.
Kickoff is set for 4:05PM ET with Andrew Luck looking to get his first win of the year with Indy, facing off against the career 1-0 QB in Denver, Trevor Simeon.
Andrew Luck was long thought to be the best QB prospect that the NFL had seen, possibly since his predecessor Peyton Manning. Indy selected Luck #1 overall in 2012.
Luck has yet to get to the Super Bowl, though he improved every year since he entered the league aside from the injury riddled 2015.
In his first game of the year, he threw from 385 yards and 4 TDs, but it wasn’t enough to get win #1.
TY Hilton remains a good deep ball threat, and with the additions of Donte Moncrief and Phillip Dorsett, the Colts have a number of good receiving options. Veteran Frank Gore is the lead back and continues to produce despite his age.
Indy’s defense looked like Swiss cheese in week-1 facing the Detroit Lions.
To add to the misery, they lost two cornerbacks and a safety in the game to injury.
Safety TJ Green is considered week-to-week, and while corner Darius Butler is expected to play in week-2, fellow CB Patrick Robinson is in the concussion protocol.
After one career appearance (and it was just a kneel down) heading in to week-1, Trevor Siemian helped lead the Broncos to victory in a replay of last year’s Super Bowl final.
In his first career start, Siemian completed 18-of-26 attempts for 178 yards, with one TD and two interceptions.
There were a couple of throws that could/should’ve been easy picks that were dropped.
Running back CJ Anderson was the star on offense for Denver in game #1 of 2016, racking up 92 yards and one TD, while adding another 47 yards and a second TD receiving.
Denver is now a team built on excellent defense, and they certainly came up big in week-1. Chris Harris Jr. had an incredible interception and almost a second in a strong performance.
The Denver D is star –studded with the likes of Harris Jr., Von Miller, TJ Ward, Aqib Talib, Brandon Marshall and DeMarcus Ware.
NFL Betting Trends:
- Indianapolis went 5-11 in 2015
- Andrew Luck racked up a 119.5 QB Rating in Week-1
- In 8 of his 11 seasons, Frank Gore has tallied 1000+ yards
- Trevor Siemian has a career QB rating of 69.1 after his first and only start
- Denver went 6-2 at home last year, and is 1-0 thus far at home this season
4* Free NFL Betting Prediction: Indianapolis +7 @ -131
This is an intriguing matchup, where Indy’s strong offense takes on a challenging defense in Denver.
On the other hand, Siemian did not look like the answer as Peyton’s replacement but will face an Indy defense that looked horrendous last game.
NFL Free Score Prediction: Indianapolis 24 – Denver 27
I’ll give the edge to the home team here, but I don’t think this will be a blowout by any means.
Luck and the Indy offense appeared to be back on track, and while I like CJ Anderson to run all over Indy Defense, I don’t trust Siemian and think Indy covers.
