A showdown opener between the team that’s been there many times and a team that has not, but has their best chance in recent memory of making some noise.
Kick off is set for 1:00PM ET with QB Blake Bortles getting the start for the Jaguars, with Aaron Rodgers opposing him.
Green Bay Packers
Aaron Rodgers will have his best receiver back this season, with Jordy Nelson missing the entire year last season with a torn ACL.
It will be a huge benefit to the Green Bay offense to have the deep threat and superb wideout back into an offence that was exceptional in 2014-15.
Jordy returning will allow Randall Cobb to slide back into the slot and be primarily the second option, where he has thrived throughout his career. Look for a bounce-back into close to his 2014 form.
Aaron Rodgers is a former MVP and arguably the best Quarterback in the league. Eddie Lacy looks to have a resurgent season after coming in overweight and having a down season a year ago.
The Green Bay defense will again be solid, if not spectacular. The Packers mainly drafted well and stay out of the big-ticket spending in Free Agency.
Clay Matthews once again leads the defensive side of the ball for the Pack.
Blake Bortles, the third overall pick in his class two years ago, is expected to have a strong season with an abundance of options he can target within the offence.
He looks to keep improving into becoming an excellent NFL QB, after throwing for 4,428 yards and 35 TDs against 18 picks last year.
The offense features targets such as Allen Robinson, Allan Hurns, Julius Thomas and steadfast backs in the recently signed Chris Ivory, and returning sophomore TJ Yeldon.
The main question heading into the year is the defense in Jacksonville, which looks to be improved from a year ago.
If the starters can remain healthy, there is a lot of talent there between Donte Fowler Jr., Malik Jackson, Telvin Smith, Prince Amukamara, Michael Bennett and recent top pick Jalen Ramsey.
NFL Betting Trends:
- Jacksonville has a completion rate of 53.8% a year ago in September 2015
- Bortles has a 93.8 QB rating on grass surface
- In 2015, Blake Bortles threw 15 of his 35 TDs at home
- Green Bay went 10-6 a year ago
- Aaron Rodgers has a career QB rating of 104.1
4* Free NFL Betting Prediction: Green Bay -3.5
A lot of pressure lays upon the shoulders of the improved Jaguars’ defense, but shutting down Aaron Rodgers and the vaunted Green Bay offense is never an easy task.
NFL Free Score Prediction: Green Bay 21 – Jacksonville 17
While I like Bortles and the Jags to make some noise this year, I think Green Bay with Nelson back and Cobb sliding into the #2 roll will be too much to handle here.
