Adversity has hit the Colts all season long and it smacked them across the face this past time as they get set to take on the Atlanta Falcons Sunday.
With the AFC South literally wide open, the Colts had a chance to run away with the division despite their bad play. Now, they’ll have to make a run without QB Andrew Luck who is likely out for the remainder of the season.

As for the Falcons, they come in off a bye week following an embarrassing loss to Blaine Gabbert and the San Francisco 49ers.
Indianapolis
Andrew Luck was given the timetables of 2-6 weeks that he will miss out on. Should he hit that 6 week plateau, it would basically mean the rest of the season.
Still, the Colts are taking precaution here and will go week by week as Luck tries to recover from a lacerated Kidney.
The injury comes at an even worse time as the Colts were actually looking like the team of old following their win over Denver prior to their bye week. The Colts handed Denver their first loss of the season behind Luck’s stellar play and the new faster paced offense.

Now with Luck out, the Colts will once again call upon QB Matt Hasselbeck to man the ship. Hasselbeck replaced Luck when he went down with his shoulder injury and went 2-0 in that time frame. However, those two wins came against the Texans and Jags, who are a step below the Falcons at this point.
With Hasselbeck now under center, a lot of pressure shifts to Frank Gore. The RB struggled last time out against the Broncos, but did flourish when Luck was out earlier this season.
Against the Texans, Gore rumbled for 98 yards and a touchdown when the Colts needed him the most.
Atlanta
The Falcons 5-0 start had them looking flawless in their wins. Matt Ryan and Julio Jones were picking apart secondaries and RB Devonta Freeman was causing havoc for defensive fronts.
However, times have changed a bit in Atlanta as the Falcons have lost 3 of 4 and are 0-5 ATS over their last 5 games as they look to get back on track following a much needed bye week.
The bye week comes after a horrible loss to the 49ers, who had Blaine Gabbert at QB. Although there are a lot of players who can have fingers pointed at them for the struggles, the defense isn’t necessarily one of them

Over the last 3 games, the Falcons defense has allowed just 15.7 points.
The problems have stemmed from the offense, who is scoring only 16.8 points per game over the last 4. They have also struggled in the red zone going just 4 for 11 in those 4 games.
Freeman has had the worse end of the offensive struggles as he managed just 12 yards on 12 carries against the 49ers. Freeman has really made a name for himself with his ability to not just run, but also catch the pass. However, recently he’s done neither of those well.
NFL Betting Trends:

- Colts are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games overall.

4* Free NFL Betting Prediction: Falcons ATS
Even though trends wise the Colts are a smart play, the Falcons got their chance to rest too with a bye and they needed it. A return home is just what the doctor ordered here for Freeman and the Falcons offense, who has looked unstoppable at times, especially early on in the season.
