The Cincinnati Bengals were arguably the best team in the AFC and perhaps in the NFL, until Andy Dalton went down.
Once Dalton went down the Bengals didn’t have much of a shot and they ended up getting bounced out of the playoffs by the Pittsburgh Steelers.

The New York Jets were on the outside looking in last year even with a record of 10-6.
You could say they were more deserving than the Houston Texans, however, had they beaten them when they had the chance, they would have made it to the playoffs.
Cincinnati Bengals
There isn’t a whole lot to not like about this Cincinnati Bengals team.
They have talent on the offensive side of the ball with Andy Dalton running the show, the two tailback tandem in Gio Bernard and Jeremy Hill, A.J. Green on the outside, and a strong offensive line led by Andrew Whitworth, and Cedric Ogbuehi.
On the defensive side of the ball, the Bengals have talent and depth.

Geno Atkins is an all-pro defensive tackle that causes havoc and causes mismatches. Carlos Dunlap, Michael Johnson, and Domata Peko make up a strong starting defensive line.
That doesn’t even include, Margus Hunt, Will Clarke, Marcus Hardinson, and fourth round value Andrew Billings.
In the secondary, the Bengals are lead by Adam Jones, Dre Kirkpatrick, Darqueze Dennard, George Iloka, Shawn Williams, and Deron Smith. Plus, throw in last year’s draft pick in Josh Shaw, and first round draft pick in William Jackson III.
Don’t forget about their linebacker core. Rey Maulauga is the veteran who is strong in the run game and Vinny Rey is a very flexible linebacker who can play anywhere.
However, a big blow will be Vontaze Burfict missing the first three games of the year due to repeated rule violations in terms of safety regulations.
I wouldn’t underestimate just how significant that is to this team and defense.
From top to bottom this is a strong team, but this is the NFL and it’s that old cliche of any given Sunday. No team is going undefeated no matter how good they are.
Going on the road it’s tough to win and it’s even tougher to cover as a road favorite.
New York Jets
Expectations should be low for this New York Jets team as they have an absolutely brutal schedule, but they have a shot to overachieve with Matthew Fitzpatrick coming back under center.
For the most part, this is the same team as last year. The Jets will try and win games with their defense and that strong defensive line will try and cause havoc on every play.

The Jets will get a bit of a boost in the linebacking core as Darron Lee will fly all around the field making plays.
Calvin Pryor playing closer to the line is beneficial for the Jets and while Darrelle Revis isn’t the shutdown corner he used to be, he’s still a solid veteran that can slow number one receivers down.
With the addition of Matt Forte that is another weapon for Fitzpatrick. The Jets still have Brandon Marshall and Eric Decker on the outside, but teams will have to respect Forte’s running and pass-catching ability.
NFL Betting Trends:
- Jets are 8-3 ATS in their last 11 games
- Jets are 5-0 straight up at home versus Cincinnati in last 5 meetings
- Jets under is 4-1 in their last 5 games
- Bengals under is 4-1 in their last 5 games
4* Free NFL Betting Prediction: Jets ATS
The Cincinnati Bengals are one of the preseason favorites to represent the AFC in the Super Bowl. I have no qualms with that at all, the AFC is pretty weak at the top and I see no reason why the Bengals can’t replicate their success from last season.
However, that doesn’t mean they are going to get off to a great start. They could lose the first game of the year. And that’s what you normally see week one.
There is a lot of fish and public out there that bet on who they like to make it to the Super Bowl week one and that’s what you see in this matchup.
People like the Bengals as one of the favorites to make it to the Super Bowl so everyone is pounding the Bengals to win and cover this game.
NFL Free Score Prediction: New York 21 – Cincinnati 20
The line started as a pick ’em and has only continued to rise. I’m fading the public in this one. I’m not willing to bet against a good team at home on opening day, in the New York area on September 11th.
I’m going to wait for the line to continue to drop and take the Jets at +3, and especially if gets down to +3.5 I’ll hammer that all day and night long.
I like the Jets to cover and I’m willing to throw a couple of bucks that they win straight up, but the best bet is the Jets cover whatever spread you get it at, ideally +3.5.
