Sunday afternoon will feature an AFC East Division matchup between a pair of 1-1 teams. Both the Bills and Dolphins are coming in off a loss and both losses were in pretty disappointing fashion.
The Bills lost a highly anticipated game with the Patriots and their defense was shredded at the hands of Tom Brady.
The Dolphins laid an egg against their state rivals from Jacksonville on a last minute field goal.
The game will get underway at 4:25 p.m. with the Bills defense looking to get back on track and the Dolphins hoping to right the shift after blowing a chance to be 2-0.
The Bills were absolutely lights out in week one against the Colts, but after watching Indy get smoked by the Jets on Monday Night Football, it may be worth questioning if the Colts’ offense was just bad and the Bills’ defense was being a bit over hyped.
This is still a good group and Tom Brady has the ability to torch any defense on any given day so I’m sure Rex Ryan’s group have put that behind them already and are preparing to stop a much more mediocre quarterback.
If there’s a bright spot from last week it’s that this Bills team did not lay down as they have in some past contests with the Pats and continued to fight despite a steep uphill climb.
Buffalo put 32 points up on the board while accumulating 350 yards of total offense. Not bad totals, but when you’re allowing 500 yards to your opponent it’s not good enough.
QB Tyrod Taylor had some trouble taking care of the ball and while the pivot threw for 242 yards and three touchdowns he was picked off three times.
LeSean McCoy looked good in the backfield, running for 89 yards on 15 carries (5.9 yards per carry) but with the Bills down big most of the game they had to turn to the passing game.
We’ve been hearing for a little while now, years in fact, that this Dolphins team could break out and challenge for the AFC East but they have often been their own worst enemy.
Despite a very solid performance from QB Ryan Tannehill with 359 yards passing and two TDs, no picks, the Dolphins D could not get a stop late and the Jags marched down the field to a game winning field goal.
A lack of a shut down corner was the undoing of the Phins last week as they had no answer for Jaguars receiver Allen Robinson who caught six passes for 155 yards and two TDs.
Miami also had some struggles getting off the field on third down as the Jags were able to extend drives five times on 14 attempts.
Miami was not very tough against the run either, surrendering 123 rushing yards and they’ll have to be better this week against McCoy and the Bills.
While Tannehill is certainly not Tom Brady, the Dolphins can take some solstice in the fact that they’re at home this week and playing a secondary that was absolutely blown apart last week.
Tannehill should look to get on them early and open up the passing game.
The air attack will be especially important as the Dolphins will need some quick scores if they get behind, as the Bills can run the ball and the Dolphins haven’t shown much ability to stop the run as yet.
NFL Betting Trends:
• Over is 7-2 in MIA last 9 games in September
• Favorite is 7-1 ATS in their last 8 meetings.
4* Free NFL Betting Prediction: BUF +2.5
Divisional games are generally tight affairs and I think the Bills are just more fired up after what was a pretty embarrassing game last week despite the score.
Also looking at strength of schedule, the Bills have played two tough teams and are 1-1, the Dolphins have played two teams that aren’t expected to do much of anything and were not convincing against the Redskins and lost to the Jags. The Bills are just playing better football right now and should win.
NFL Free Score Prediction: Buffalo 24 – Miami 17
Buffalo’s ability to run the ball with McCoy and a pretty stout defense looking for a bounce back will keep Miami at bay and grind out a win.
