The Jacksonville Jaguars and the Atlanta Falcons are both in the thick of their respective playoff pictures, but both teams are heading in completely opposite directions.
Kick off is set for 1:00 PM ET as Blake Bortles and the Jaguars look to stay competitive in the AFC South, while Matt Ryan and the Falcons cling to life in the NFC.
The Atlanta Falcons are in the middle of one of the most embarrassing seasons in NFL history.
After a 5-0 start that saw them as one of a handful of undefeated teams still remaining, the Falcons now find themselves with a 6-7 record and fighting to get into the postseason.
There are several factors for this free fall, most notably on the offensive side of the ball.
The Falcons have only scored 96 points over their last seven games, an average of 13.7 points per game. How can any team expect to win when it isn’t even scoring 14 points a game?
Matt Ryan has looked terrible lately, and he’s thrown nearly as many interceptions as he’s thrown touchdowns this season.
Atlanta is also coming off an ugly 38-0 thrashing to the undefeated Carolina Panthers, and the Falcons need to win out if they want any chance at the postseason.
What used to be thought of as an automatic win against the Jacksonville Jaguars is no longer guaranteed. The Jaguars are now 5-8, and the Falcons will be in for a tough road matchup against them.
Don’t look now, but the Jacksonville Jaguars are only one game out of first place in the abysmal AFC South. The Jaguars offense, believe it or not, has been one of the hottest in the NFL over the last three weeks.
The Jags have scored 115 points over their last three games, including that 51-point performance against the Indianapolis Colts last week.
Blake Bortles has been on a tear lately, throwing 10 touchdowns and just one interception over his last three games. On the season, Bortles has thrown 30 touchdowns, nearly double the amount that Ryan has thrown.
Wide receiver Allen Robinson has scored 12 touchdowns this year, which is tied for the league lead with Odell Beckham Jr. and Tyler Eifert.
Jacksonville is no longer assumed to be taken lightly, especially since the Jags are right in the thick of the AFC playoff picture.
NFL Betting Trends:
- Falcons are 4-9 ATS this year
- Jaguars are 7-5-1 ATS this year
- Falcons are 2-5 ATS on the road this year
- Falcons are 0-5 ATS in their last 5 games
- Jaguars are 5-1-1 ATS in their last 7 games
4* Free NFL Betting Prediction: Jacksonville ATS
The Jaguars are scoring points at an alarming rate, and the Falcons can’t score at all. Atlanta needs to outscore Jacksonville to win this game, but I can’t see that happening.
NFL Free Score Prediction: Jacksonville 28 – Atlanta 20
Jacksonville should win this one to keep its postseason hopes alive.
