The Portland Trail Blazers and Washington Wizards are both entering the 2015-16 NBA’s home stretch with playoffs on the brain. Both teams are fighting for one of the final spots in their respective conferences, and both are led by star point guards who hope to get them there.
These teams tip off at the Moda Center in Portland, Ore. at 10:00 p.m. ET on Tuesday, March 8.
Offense is the name of the game for the Washington Wizards. John Wall and crew are averaging 102.6 points per contest, which is good enough for 10th in the Association. Unfortunately, their offensive efficiency isn’t quite as strong, as they’re just 20th in the league, per ESPN.com.
The discrepancy between points per game and efficiency wouldn’t be too bad if they were able to simply run teams out of the gym, but their 104.3 points per game allowed (21st) and No. 18 defensive efficiency makes it tough to justify.
Entering this game, the Wizards are riding a two-game losing streak. Their most recent loss came at the hands of the Indiana Pacers, 100-99, while the one before that came to the Cleveland Cavaliers, 108-83.
Before the losing streak began, Washington had won four straight, including five of its last six.
This team hopes to get back on track, but it’ll have to get past a tough Western Conference opponent to do just that.
Portland Trail Blazers
The Trail Blazers have floated around the eighth seed out West all season. They’ve been as high as sixth (and as low as ninth), but the fact remains that they are competing with both the Houston Rockets and the Utah Jazz for either the seventh or eighth seed when the year comes to an end.
The story for Portland this season, aside from C.J. McCollum’s Most Improved Player candidacy, is Damian Lillard. Specifically, it’s about the tear that he’s one since being snubbed out of a spot in the All-Star Game.
The matchup to watch here is John Wall versus Damian Lillard. As entertaining as it’s going to be, the question is: Will either of these star guards play defense?
The offense is going to be flowing for both of these groups, but if the defense can make an appearance, one team will have a clear edge over the other.

Free Washington Wizards vs. Portland Trail Blazers Prediction
When it comes to a long road trip (something the Blazers have done over the last week or so), the cliche states that the first game back home is like the last game of the swing. Expect some rust from Portland here in its first game back to Moda, but a close victory should be in Rip City’s favor, even if they can’t pull off the win against the spread.
