It looked like the Houston Rockets would be able to break through this season. Coming off a year in which they made the Western Conference Finals, losing to the eventual champion Golden State Warriors, then adding an All-Star point guard in Ty Lawson, things looked up in Houston.

But instead, the team has endured one of the most difficult starts to a season in the entire NBA this season, and another poor effort on Wednesday night against the Portland Trail Blazers could be the thing that cues change for the franchise.
Portland Trail Blazers:
While the Rockets have been a surprise dud this season, a drop from the Trail Blazers was to be expected after the team lost LaMarcus Aldridge, Wesley Matthews, Robin Lopez, and Nicolas Batum during the offseason, leaving Damian Lillard as the lone starter from a year ago still on the roster.

The Trail Blazers have lost six in a row after falling to the San Antonio Spurs by a score of 93-80 on Monday night, even though they held Aldridge to five points. Of those losses, three have been one-possession games inside the game’s final three minutes.
Houston Rockets:
Lawson was an All-Star in Denver while playing with the Nuggets, but he’s had trouble fitting in in Houston, averaging 5.6 points on 26.2 percent shooting over his last five games. His struggles were enough to get head coach Kevin McHale to say a change to the starting backcourt could be in order.

On Monday, the Rockets were outscored 32-13 in the third quarter and heard boos from the home crowd. On Saturday, the team fell behind 50-25 in the first 18 minutes of that game and heard boos from the crowd even earlier than that. Star guard James Harden shot 9 for 31 in those two outings.
NBA Betting Trends:
- The Rockets are 5-2 ATS in the last seven meetings between these teams.
- The Trail Blazers are 3-10-1 ATS in their last 14 road games.
- The Trail Blazers are 1-4 ATS in their last five games following a loss.
- The Rockets are 17-8 ATS in their last 25 games against Northwest Division opponents.
- The Trail Blazers are 1-5 ATS in their last six games overall.
Free NBA Prediction:
For as bad as the Rockets’ season has gone thus far, the Blazers’ season has been even worse. While the Rockets have struggled, the Blazers have played as expected because they’re just plain bad this season.

The Rockets still have plenty of talent left on the roster, and it’s just a matter of time before those sleeping giants wake and start rolling. For now, we’ll get in at a favorable number while they’re still available on a talented Houston team.
