The Oklahoma City Thunder dropped the first game of their four-game homestand, but have a chance to leave the Chesapeake Energy Arena riding a three-game winning streak with the Phoenix Suns visiting Oklahoma on Thursday night to close out the homestand.
The Thunder lost to the Chicago Bulls on Christmas Day, but have since scored 253 points on 53.8 percent shooting from the field and 90.2 percent shooting from the foul line to lay a beat down on the Denver Nuggets and Milwaukee Bucks.
Despite giving the Cleveland Cavaliers a run for their money earlier in the week, the Suns have lost six in a row and saw their coaching staff get completely re-vamped, only further putting head coach Jeff Hornacek’s job status in question as the losses keep piling up.
Now the team is tasked with turning things around without top scorer Eric Bledsoe, who’s been lost for the season with a knee injury. The team’s weaknesses were put on full display Wednesday when they were routed by the San Antonio Spurs in a 112-79 thrashing.
Oklahoma City Thunder:
The Thunder bench has really given the team a boost in recent games. That unit accumulated 88 points in the last two outings, including a big jump in production from big man Enes Kanter. Kanter is putting up 18.5 points per game on 68.2 percent shooting to go along with an average of 10 boards over the team’s last four games.
Kanter has put up 20-point games in back-to-back contests for the first time all season after pouring in 23 in Tuesday’s 131-123 victory over Milwaukee. The team’s also seen an uptick in production from No. 14 overall pick Cameron Payne, who put up a season-high 16 points and matched a season-high with three assists in his last outing.
NBA Betting Trends:
- The under is 11-3 in the Suns’ last 14 games against Northwest Division opponents.
- The under is 7-2 in the Suns’ last nine games against Western Conference opponents.
- The under is 8-3 in the Suns’ last 11 games overall.
- The under is 4-0 in the Thunder’s last four games against Pacific Division opponents.
- The under is 14-4 in the Thunder’s last 18 games overall.
- The under is 8-2 in the Thunder’s last 10 home games.
Free NBA Prediction:
The Thunder have been scoring the basketball with ease of late, but given the improved play of their bench, don’t be surprised if head coach Billy Donovan takes his foot off the gas pedal a little here, and gives his reserves some run in what should be a very one-sided matchup.
4* Free NBA Betting Pick: Under 210.5
The Suns are going to continue to have trouble scoring the rest of the season after putting all of their eggs in one basket with Eric Bledsoe, and they’ll be feeling the effects of that for some time to come.
