2016-2017 NBA Previews – Grizzlies Odds
Looking for 2016 Memphis Grizzlies Predictions? We’ve got your back. The Memphis Grizzlies had the potential to put together a special 2015-16 NBA season. No, they weren’t going to be historically great like the Golden State Warriors or (to a lesser extent) the San Antonio Spurs, but they had a chance to be as good as any second-tier team out West if health hadn’t gotten in the way.

Battered and beaten all season (and in particular late in the year), this team never stood a chance of reaching its ceiling. The team set a single-season record by suiting up 28 players throughout the year.
This season, the team is hoping for greater fortune and a stronger postseason showing.
Memphis Grizzlies Strengths:
Defense, defense, defense. This is what has defined the Grizzlies for quite some time now.

Grit-and-grind is more than a mantra in Memphis; it’s a way of life.
The team ranked just 19th last season in defensive efficiency, but that has more to do with the fact that center Marc Gasol and point guard Mike Conley missed time with significant injuries.
In 2014-15, Memphis was fourth in that category, and while it’s impossible to say it would’ve been that good if healthy, there’s no doubt the team would have been better than 19th if it hadn’t been forced to play 28 different players throughout the year.
In terms of offense, Memphis has struggled, but the offseason signing of Chandler Parsons should help in that category.
He has shot 38 percent from behind the arc over the course of his career and that number was a career-high 41.4 percent last season.
He’s never been a go-to scorer and won’t likely be one at this juncture, but he will give this roster some breathing room on that end of the floor.
Memphis Grizzlies Weaknesses:
As much as adding Parsons will help, shooting is still a weakness. Memphis shot the fifth-fewest three-pointers in the NBA last season and only completed those attempts at a 33.1 percent clip.
We need to see proof that they’ve improved before we remove this category from the list of weaknesses.

Although we’ve mentioned health by now, it’d be irresponsible not to mention it once again here. Health isn’t simply about bad luck. This team has compiled veterans, and while the Grizz aren’t the oldest team in the league, it’s older players who often require more maintenance and suffer more injuries.
Sticking with the makeup of this roster, depth could prove to be an issue this season. The addition of Parsons helps, but the departures of Chris Andersen, Matt Barnes and Lance Stephenson hurt.
Zach Randolph will be coming off the bench this year, which will help give this team a scoring threat in the second unit. But an aging power forward with little athleticism hardly seems like a fail-safe answer.
There’s also the question of coaching. Head coach Dave Joerger was relieved of his duties after a postseason flop (we’ll let you decide if that move was fair or not considering the plethora of health issues this team faced all year), and now David Fizdale is on board.
This is Fizdale’s first head coaching gig, so expect some growing pains despite the veteran roster.
Memphis Grizzlies Betting Prediction: 47-35
Vegas has set the over/under for the Grizzlies this season at 43.5. As long as this team stays healthy, the over should be an easy pick.
Simply put: Memphis has what it takes to win.

Gasol is one of the best centers in the game, Randolph gives them more depth in his willingness to come off the bench and Parsons could be the piece that finally gets this team over the offensive hurdle it’s faced for quite some time now.
It would take more stars aligning than likely exist for this team to surpass both the Warriors and Spurs in the race out West, but home-court advantage in the postseason isn’t out of the question.
