Both of these teams are right in the thick of it in that next tier after the Cavs. Not sure either has the right stuff to win it all though.
The East is so bunchy all of these teams are going to be using these games to get that home court advantage for the playoffs. Its nice that the intrigue is on that side of the league this season for the first time in a while.
Indiana is coming off a win and looking to parlay that into a successful road trip.
The first spot is Miami who they beat last month.
The Pacers have been playing well this season but I am not sure this team is built to be a bully in the East unless someone other than Paul George emerges. At times the Monta Ellis has been impressive but overall they have not got the player they were expecting.
They really need that secondary player.
George is coming off another one of his MVP like performances with 32 points and 14 rebounds against Detroit. This team is super perimeter oriented this season with all of their double-digit scorers being guard types.
Rodney Stuckey has struggled to find his role on the team with Ellis in tow. His scoring is way down and his shooting is way off. I am not sure he is the type to shoot himself back into a groove either.
Inside their options are not very good.
Miami is right in the middle of that group of Eastern Conference teams that is doing better than expected and making the Conference as tough as it has been in more than a decade or so.
Key to that has been the return or health of key cogs Dwayne Wade and Chris Bosh. Both are averaging 18ppg and give team a couple of veteran scorers who can get good shots when it matters most.
I know he burst onto the scene last year but Hassan Whiteside might still be the most underappreciated player in the NBA. He is first in block and 4th in rebounding while scoring double figures. And essentially he is their only inside player.
The only reason to not get behind Miami is that they depend on vets and will be playing the night before.
