Below will describe each participant and why they have the chance to win this years Three Point Contest.
Stephen Curry 3 Point Contest Odds 9/4
Curry comes in as defending champion and opens as an odds on favorite in this years competition.
The Warriors star PG has taken the first half by storm leading the Warriors to a ridiculous start thanks to ability to shoot from anywhere on the floor.
Curry is averaging 29.8 points per game on the season and averages 5 of 11 shooting from behind the arc per game.
He’ll likely be the most backed player as if he catches fire, there is simply no stopping him.
Klay Thompson 3 Point Contest Odds 7/2
Very ironic the two Splash Brothers are the top 2 favorites in this years Three Point Contest. Thompson usually takes a back seat regardless of how he’s playing as it’s been Curry who has been stealing the show.
This competition will give Thompson a chance to enjoy a little friendly competition with his teammate, as it’s a chance to steal the center of attention for once.
Thompson has averaged 21.3 points through the first half of the season. Thompson is a little bit less of a 3 point shooter as he averages just 8 a game, while making 4. Like Curry, if Thompson can catch fire, there is no stopping him.
JJ Redick 3 Point Contest Odds 5/1
The Duke product has been notorious for his three point shooting abilities throughout his career.
[dfads params=’groups=226&limit=1&return_javascript=1′]
Give Redick an open shot and he can hit it from anywhere behind the arc. He’s already hit so many clutch threes in the first half of the season, this guy has the ability to really rack up scores in this competition.
However, he has battled through injuries this season, leaving his numbers down a bit. Redick averages 16.4 points per game, but only attempts 5.6 threes per game. You can say “only” because that number should and deserves to be much higher as he is one of the purest shooters in the game.
Devin Booker 3 Point Contest Odds 11/2
The rookie out of Kentucky will make his first big appearance on the national stage, as he has had a solid first half to his career.
You don’t hear much about him on a day to day basis with his team being so down in the standings, but Booker has really stepped up to be a leader on this Suns team.
Booker is averaging just 10.6 points per game and his three point numbers won’t jump out at you. Booker averages just 2.9 three pointers per game and makes 1.2 of them.
However, those numbers have picked up lately as he’s attempted 5-6 threes per game. Looking back on the game against Toronto on 2/2, the SG let loose 14 threes and hit 6 of them. He doesn’t mind letting it fly and has the ability to drain them.
Kyle Lowry 3 Point Contest Odds 11/2
Lowry has been the biggest first half surprise this season.
The G was voted into a starting role for the Eastern Conference in the All Star game and has put together a complete first half of the season.
Lowry isn’t afraid to hoist the 3 by any means as he averages 7.1 attempts per game. His most recent outburst to note was on 2/4 against Portland where he drilled 7 of 10 from behind the arc. Don’t sleep on him here as he has solid value with these odds.
James Harden 3 Point Contest Odds 8/1
Harden will get a lot the bets as well in this competition based on his recognition.
What you’re getting with Harden is experience here. James Harden has been through all the competitions and participated in just about everything you can think of, so he won’t be phased here.
Like Lowry, Harden jacks up about 8 three pointers per game. He’s just like Curry or Thompson as if he gets hot and finds the rhythm, there is no slowing him down. Expect him to make it deep into this competition as he has the ability to really catch fire, especially early on.
Khris Middleton 3 Point Contest Odds 8/1
Middleton’s name won’t generate much buzz, but this 6’8 shooting guard is quietly having a solid season.
He’s put up 17.7 points per game and attempts roughly 5 three pointers per game. Middleton is defined as a very streaky shooter. He will get to the bucket and get his fair share of points, but when it comes to jump shots, it’s really hit or miss, there is no median.
Over his last four games, he’s shot just 35%. Don’t factor that in as much into this competition, but realize confidence is big thing for him. If he starts missing early, it could end up a train wreck.
Chris Bosh 3 Point Contest Odds 12/1
Bosh isn’t your typical three point shooter. He can step out and hoist it, but he’s usually a middle range or in the paint kind of guy.
Bosh will be a tough guy to back here. While he has the talent, it’s tough to envision him catching fire like Curry or Redick would.
He’ll need to utilize the moneyballs big time here, even though that may not be enough for him.
