NASCAR Sprint Cup – Firekeepers Casino 400 Preview and Prediction
Race: Firekeepers Casino 400 at Michigan International Speedway
Date: Sunday, June 12
Time: 1 p.m. (ET)
Broadcast: FOX Sports 1
Rain pushed the start of last week’s race at Pocono until this past Monday and the delay did wonders for Kurt Busch in his first victory this season on the Sprint Cup point race schedule.
Dale Earnhardt Jr. moved up in the point standings with a second-place finish and Brad Keselowski finished third.
The following is a look at my top favorite, contender and longshot to win this Sunday’s race at Michigan based on betting odds provided by MyBookie.
NASCAR Firekeepers Casino 400 Odds: The Favorite (odd of less than 10/1)
Kevin Harvick has just one victory this season, but he has the best odds in the field to double that total this Sunday as a +600 favorite to win.
The No. 4 Chevrolet is at the top of the current Sprint Cup standings with 490 points and this team has led close to 700 laps this season, but the consistently we saw last season has been missing with eight finishes outside the top five in the first 14 events on the schedule.
None the less, Harvick adds some big value to these odds with a string of five second-place finishes at Michigan in his last six trips around this track.
NASCAR Firekeepers Casino 400 Odds: The Contender (odds from 10/1 to 19/1)
Most of the top contenders for this week’s race had betting odds lower than +1000 so I decided to stretch things the other way by going with Dale Earnhardt Jr. at +1800 odds to win.
Along with his strong showing this past Monday at Pocono, he has now guided the No. 88 Chevrolet to four runner-up finishes this season so you start to get the feeling that he is due to finally break through with a win.
The longest winless streak of Dale Jr.’s career ended at Michigan in 2012 and he is coming off a runner-up finish at this track in last year’s race.
NASCAR Firekeepers Casino 400 Odds: The Longshot (odds 20/1 or greater)
I would love to go with Chase Elliott at +1800 since he is another driver with longer odds that is due to win, but to stretch the number to the longshot level I have settled-in with another young gun Kyle Larson at +2000 odds.
Driving the No. 42 Chevrolet, he has come close to upsetting the field twice this season starting with a third-place finish at Martinsville earlier in the year.
He best run of the season came at Dover just a few weeks ago when he finished second to Matt Kenseth after leading that race for 85 laps. In four previous Sprint Cup races at Michigan, Larson’s best finish was eighth in this race in 2014.
