A pair of sweeps have given both teams a few extra days off as they get set for first pitch in Cleveland on Friday night.
The Indians entered play as the biggest underdogs in the American League as they took on David Ortiz and the Red Sox. After winning both games in Cleveland, the Indians held off a late surge from the Red Sox in Game 3 to ultimately end David Ortiz’s career.
As for the Blue Jays, they stole a pair of games in Texas after winning the Wild Card Game against Baltimore. Returning home, a back and forth game resulted in a bad throw and Josh Donaldson flying home from 2nd to walk off the series for the Jays.
The two teams played to an exciting regular season that will provide us with some solid entertainment.
Who’s got the edge? Let’s find out.
2016 ALCS Free Series Prediction: Offense
The Toronto Blue Jays lineup is not one you want to mess with.
50% of the runs in this postseason have come via the long ball, something the Blue Jays have done so well this season. Toronto has 6 players that have hit 20 or more homeruns on the year and they used the homerun ball this postseason behind Edwin Encarnacion and Jose Bautista.
When you have a part of the lineup that goes Josh Donaldson (37 HR, 99 RBI), Edwin Encarnacion (42 HR, 127 RBI), and Jose Bautista (22 HR, 69 RBI), it’s impossible to pitch around anyone.
Don’t ignore the fact that Russell Martin and Troy Tulowitzki are looming behind the trio.

For Cleveland, they’ve been an ultimate surprise all season and even here in the postseason.
They have plenty of depth, one thing that a lot of teams don’t have. Lonnie Chisenhall, Tyler Naquin, Brandon Guyer, and Coco Crisp all have big hits this postseason as they headline a platoon outfield used by the Tribe.
With Jason Kipnis, Francisco Lindor, and Jose Ramirez scattered in the Top 5, you never want to face these guys with people on base.
One thing to watch this series will be Carlos Santana and Mike Napoli. They are the ones who have to provide the power for Cleveland and they didn’t show any of that off in the ALDS.
Edge: Toronto Blue Jays.
The lineup is just too dangerous top to bottom. The Jays can put up crooked numbers with homeruns, while the Indians will work to manufacture runs.
2016 ALCS Free Series Prediction: Pitching
Starting for pitching for Toronto sometimes goes overlooked with their lineup.
The Jays rotation actually led the AL with an ERA of 3.64 and have a top 3 that can really be shutdown. Aaron Sanchez, JA Happ, and Marco Estrada all finished with less than 3.50 ERAs in the regular season and shut down the Rangers for the most part.
Bullpen wise, it’s a shaky ride, but a talented ride. Getting to the back end is key. Jason Grilli and Roberto Osuna are the two key 8th and 9th inning guys that can be difference makers. However, they’ve also shown plenty of times they can be taken deep and blow a game.

For Cleveland, Francona again continues to push all the right buttons.
After losing their number 2 and 3 starters in Carlos Carrasco and Danny Salazar, Trevor Bauer and Josh Tomlin came up huge in the ALDS.
Where Cleveland is so dangerous is that bullpen and Francona showed he’s not afraid to use it. He brought Andrew Miller in during the 5th inning of Game 1 against Boston and used both Miller and Cody Allen for 40 plus pitches in games.
Turning it over to Dan Otero, Bryan Shaw, Andrew Miller, and Cody Allen with the lead is what wins games for Cleveland. If they can get there, it’s a huge advantage for the Tribe.
Edge: Cleveland.
The bullpen is just too good on the back end for the Tribe. However, getting there with the lead during Bauer and Tomlin starts are the biggest obstacle.
2016 ALCS Free Series Prediction: Blue Jays vs. Indians
This one is going to be as fun as the regular season series was.
We saw a 19 inning game, a walk off inside the park home run, a 17 run performance, it was incredibly entertaining.
The key is can Cleveland get to the back end of their bullpen. It’s going to be a back and forth series with this one going to 6 or 7.
2016 ALCS Prediction: Cleveland in 6
