One team with unfinished business against one team looking to make history.
The Kansas City Royals and the New York Mets will get set to battle it out for the World Series starting Tuesday in Kansas City.
Both the Mets and Royals needed to pull off “upsets” in their respective Championship Series as New York swept Chicago and Kansas City took out Toronto in 6.
First pitch is set for 8:07 on FOX.
The Mets road to the World Series has came completely unexpected here in 2015. This team was picked as a middle of the pack team in the NL East, but behind some solid pitching and deadline deals, the Mets were right up there in the NL East race the whole season.
The key momentum came back on Sept.7-9, when the Mets led by just 2.0 games and headed to Washington for a 3 game set.
In all 3 games, New York came from behind to win and their 3 game sweep put them up 5.0 games and they never looked back.
After going into Los Angeles to steal Game 5 of the NLDS, things were much easier for them in the NLCS as they handled the Cubs with ease en route to a 4 game sweep.
They’ll go with RH Matt Harvey in Game 1 as they try to steal the opener on the road.
Harvey was limited down the stretch of the season for this reason solely. The deeper the Mets playoff run went, the more innings he could pitch. Harvey will have no limitations on him come Tuesday.
Harvey has worked 12.2 innings this postseason and has struck out 16 while allowing just 4 runs. The Mets have won both starts Harvey has made.
It takes a lot for a team to find themselves back in the World Series for a 2nd straight year. After having Alex Gordon standing on 3rd base to end Game 7 of the 2014 World Series, the Royals will get another chance to erase the bad memories in 2015.
Kansas City has used their speed and power to propel themselves this year as they led the AL Central for a majority of the season by double digits.
They then leaned on their experience and grit to knock off Houston in 5 games and take down the high powered Blue Jays in 6.
However, the only thing standing in Kansas City’s way is their starting rotation. Getting to the back end of the bullpen is the key for them every game. Their lack of a true starting rotation has made that much more difficult.
In fact, almost 24 hours until first pitch of Game 1 and Ned Yost has yet to name a starting pitcher.
With the rotation in question, the Royals will rely heavily on their hitting. Eric Hosmer and Kendrys Morales lead the team this postseason with 21 RBIs combined.
As a team, they’re hitting .271 in these playoffs.
