Both the Rockies and the Marlins have exceeded expectations this season, but the Marlins seem to be the team with the more stable rotation.
With nearly 70 games in the books, both teams are in the thick of the National League playoff race, and it will be interesting to see how they finish the year with postseason aspirations on the mind.
Led by one of the best lineups in the National League, the Rockies are just 3.5 games outside of a Wild Card spot.
Guys like Trevor Story and Nolan Arenado have led the way for Colorado and have catapulted the Rockies to 2nd in the majors in slugging and OPS and 5th in OBP.
Unfortunately, Colorado’s pitching staff has not been able to get the job done.
As a staff, the Rockies are 28th in ERA and 22nd in WHIP and the team has yet to yield a guy who can be counted on as a No. 1 starter.
The struggling veteran Jorge De La Rosa will toe the rubber for the Rockies, and it’s amazing he still has a spot in any starting rotation.
De La Rosa is 3-4 with a 7.61 ERA, one of the worst among MLB starting pitchers.
His last road start was on May 24 where he was shelled for seven earned runs in just 3.1 innings against the Red Sox.
The Marlins have certainly defied expectations this season and find themselves in the playoff picture will a little more than 90 games to go. Despite a struggling Giancarlo Stanton, the Fish rank 2nd in hits, 5th in average and 9th in OBP.
Miami is getting significant contributions from Christian Yelich, Marcell Ozuna and Martin Prado, all of whom are batting over .300 this year.
Miami has ace Jose Fernandez and guys like Adam Conley and Tom Koehler who have been nice contributions.
However, Justin Nicolino is still struggling to find his rhythm, and he doesn’t seem to be getting any better.
The young lefty has allowed 10 earned runs over his last two starts, so the Marlins are going to need him to improve if they want to make a run at the postseason.
MLB Baseball Betting Trends:
- Rockies are 17-19 on the road.
- Rockies are 6-4 in their last 10 games.
- Marlins are 16-16 at home.
- Marlins are 6-3 in their last nine home games.
- Marlins are 4-6 when Nicolino starts.
Free Colorado Rockies vs. Miami Marlins MLB Prediction:
Both of these teams are capable of scoring a bunch of runs, and both of them probably will as the starting pitchers in this game have an average ERA over 6.00.
While I’m confident the Marlins will this game, I’m even more confident that it will be one high-scoring affair.
Neither De La Rosa nor Nicolino have been very good, so look for both offenses to come up big on Monday.
