A lot of questionable calls and poor replay decisions costed the Indians the series opener on Monday night.
They’ll look to bounce back as they send Cody Anderson to the mound on Tuesday.
The Indians got bad news with Carlos Carrasco going on the DL Monday, but they also got Michael Brantley back who will get the start on Tuesday after pinch hitting on Monday.
Cleveland gave one away after a botched replay call led to a 3 run Minnesota inning and an eventual walk off home run in the 9th. Cleveland tied things up with a Yan Gomes home run in the 8th, but Zack McCallister came on in the 9th and allowed a lead off home run to seal the fate for the Indians.
Looking to get back on track, Cleveland will go with Cody Anderson. Anderson was knocked around by the Mariners in his last start and was rather hard on himself after the loss.
Anderson pitched 7.0 scoreless innings last year in his only meeting with the Twins. With Carrasco down, Anderson’s spot in the rotation is safe, which could give him some security and confidence going forward.
The Minnesota Twins haven’t had much go their way, but on Monday all the calls and bounces went with them.
After it looked like Santana was picked off first to end the 5th, the replay system decided he was safe upon review, opening the door for a 3 run outburst by the Twins.
Oswaldo Arcia would eventually put an end to the night with a walk off home run to put an end to the Twins 3 game losing streak.
Minnesota will send Ricky Nolasco out on Tuesday, who grabbed the win over the Brewers last time out. Nolasco finished allowing just 1 run in 6.1 innings while striking out 7. In 5 starts against the Indians, he’s had trouble keeping the ball in the ballpark. He’s allowed 5 home runs in those 5 starts that has covered 25.2 innings of work.
