The Cubs are playing good ball. They have built up such a big lead that depending on how things shake out I think they could clinch the division next week.
If that is the case I think Kris Bryant has to be the leading candidate for MVP. In just his second season he is going to finish with a slash line of something like .300/42/110, while leading the Majors in runs scored.
The Cubs are very good from top to bottom but he is the standout in the lineup.
His numbers might not be what they were a year ago but Jake Arrieta is still the ace of the team.
He is the hardest to hit and the most intimidating presence they have on the mound. His starts have been a little more erratic this season but betting against him is not a great idea. He is 10-2 on the road this season.
The Cubs probably do not have the best bullpen in the league but now that they have Aroldis Chapman at the back end teams know the games are getting shorter.
The Astros are fighting hard in the AL. Cathing the Rangers to win the West is unlikely but they are in the thick of it for the Wild Card race with a slew of teams.
They also have a solid MVP candidate in Jose Altuve. He leads the AL in hitting and with every season he is becoming more of a run producer. However, for him to have a real shot they probably have to make the playoffs.
Teammates Carlos Correa and George Springer are no slouches.
Mike Fiers has not delivered as much as the Astros would have hoped for when they acquired him last year at the deadline.
However, he has pitched much better at home and the team is winning close to 80% of his home starts – and making money.
The Houston bullpen has had some up and downs as they try and find the right closer but they lead the Majors in bullpen strikeout and are fifth in ERA so they are getting the jobs done most of the time.

Free Chicago Cubs vs. Houston Astros MLB Prediction:
The easy call here is to take the Cubs but there is no value there at the current odds (which are not really going to change). To make some dough you have to take them on the moneyline which is a pretty decent bet.
4* Free MLB Betting Pick: Chicago Cubs RL
I suppose that Fiers’ numbers at home could pull you in but don’t forget they are taking on the Cubs, not a normal opponent. The only hope is that maybe they are looking past them…on Sunday Night Baseball…I doubt it.
