It feels like the Cubs just lost their first game in a month last night. Although it’s not exactly true, the squad has been rolling all year, sitting in first in their division by 10 games and setting historic run differentials in the process.
The historic run by these Cubs has been a sight to watch, and it doesn’t appear that these guys are going away anytime soon.
Theo Epstein and co. have built a solid roster of great young hitters and made some astute pitcher signings to round out the squad and make a complete roster.
These Cubs and Braves have almost exactly opposite records, with the Cubs leading the MLB at 41-17 and the Braves in the basement at 17-42.
The Braves are going to need to take a page out of the powerhouse Cubs with their coming draft picks- likely 1st overall- and find some good young bats to build around.
Jason Hammel is in the midst of his best season of his 10-year career, at a 7-1 record with a 2.14 ERA and a 1.08 WHIP.
He gets an easy test against the last place Braves who have the worst offense in baseball, and gets a bonus luxury of taking the hill in the pitcher-friendly Turner Field in Atlanta.
The bottom-feeders of the league are already all-but-out of the running for playoffs, but fully in the lead for the 1st overall pick in the amateur draft.
It would be a wise decision to sell of the parts they can which will not be building blocks for young prospect value in part of this full rebuild.
The best trade chip they likely have is 1B Freddie Freeman, though he is in the middle of his worst career with a .250 average and 9 HR. Nick Markakis leads the team in RBI with 34 and he is a veteran piece that may be a decent depth option for a contender and return a “B” grade prospect.
MLB Baseball Betting Trends:
Bud Norris will take the hill to face off against the best offense in the league. Norris currently sports a 1-7 record and has a miserable 5.28 ERA and 1.61 WHIP.
I don’t expect those number to improve in this one, as he’s allowed a .281 average against on the year and has just a 33:24 K/BB ratio.
- Chicago is 19-9 on the road
- the Cubs are 7-3 in their last 10 games
- Hammel has allowed 3 or more earned runs only twice this season
- Atlanta has the worst record in the MLB at 17-42 on the year
- The Braves are 6-23 at home
Free Chicago Cubs vs. Atlanta Braves MLB Prediction:
This should be a slaughtering, with a bad starting pitcher facing off against the best offense in baseball, and vice versa.
4* Free MLB Betting Pick: Chicago -1.5
The Cubs should handle the Braves, even if they play their bench players their lineup is miles better. I’ll take Cubs Run Line.
MLB Free Score Prediction: Chicago 9-2
