Angels 2017 Season Preview
Ready to check out our 2017 Los Angeles Angels predictions? After missing the playoffs for the last two years, the Los Angeles Angels will look to make a push for the playoffs, but its going to be another uphill climb.
MLB Cubs Predictions & Handicapping Insight
The Los Angeles Angels have one of the best, if not thee best player in the MLB in Mike Trout. It’s the players around him that are the question marks.
They need some other players around him to step up if they want to make the playoffs.

This feels like the Angels need to make the playoffs if Mike Scioscia wants to be the head coach in the coming years for this team.
2017 MLB Team Previews – Los Angeles Angels
- American League West +1000
- American League +4000
- World Series +7500
Key Additions:
- Danny Espinosa
- Jesse Chavez
- Ben Revere
- Cameron Maybin
Although none of their additions are stars, they are a lot of solid players who can come in and contribute right away for this team.
Jesse Chavez is my favorite signing. He had a solid 2016 season with the Blue Jays and the Dodgers. He is a good set up guy who can come into tough spots, and get key outs.
Ben Revere is also a good top of the line up guy who if he gets on a base has a ton of speed.
Key Losses:
- SP Jered Weaver
- SP CJ Wilson
None of the loses the Angels had this off-season were really earth shattering. CJ retired from baseball to be a car racer.
Angels Predictions: Projected Lineup:
- 3B Yunel Escobar
- OF Kole Calhoun
- OF Mike Trout
- DH Albert Pujols
- 1B Luis Valbuena
- 2B Danny Espinosa
- SS Andrelton Simmons
- OF Ben Revere
- C Martin Maldonado
There is a ton of power in the middle of this line up but a lot of questions about the production outside of 3,4 and 5.
I really like the speed near the bottom of the line up. If they can get on base, this Angels team can get a ton of stolen bases.
Angels Predictions: Projected Rotation:
- RH Matt Shoemaker
- RH Ricky Nolosco
- LH Tyler Skaggs
- RH Garrett Richards
- RH Jesse Chavez
The fifth spot in the rotation is a battle that will come down to Jesse Chavez and Alex Meyers, with Jesse Chavez having the upper hand right now.

One thing to watch in this rotation is if the Angels try and add another left handed pitcher. They only have one of those in the line up right now.
Angels Predictions: Projected Closer:
- Cam Bedrosian
When the season ends Huston Street will probably be the closer for the Los Angeles Angels but he is injured so it looks like Cam Bedrosian will start the season as the closer.
This will be his first time as a closer so it’s a good experience for him, even if he doesn’t end the season as a closer.
Hopefully this experience will be good, and make him even a more effective set up man. In 2016 he appeared in 45 games and posted a 1.12 ERA.
2017 Los Angeles Angels Prediction:
I really think the Los Angeles Angels will make the playoffs this year. I really like the players they brought in, and I think that will be enough to make the playoffs.
I don’t think they will win the American League West but will get one of the Wildcard spots.
I think they could make it all the way to the American League championship series, if the cards fall right, but they won’t get into the World Series.
But if they have a couple of injuries and the pitching staff continues to struggle they could be one of the worst teams in the American League and there isn’t much room for error.
The Angels over/under sits at 80.5. To make the playoffs they will need around 88 wins, which I think they will get.

Even if they were to miss the playoffs I think they would still play well enough to finish above 81 wins.
Last year they had 74 wins, so that would only need a improvement of seven wins, which will happen.
