AL East Predictions & Handicapping Insight
The AL East is quite the stacked division.
It’s been 2 years without the Red Sox competing, but it’s game on for them this season as they’ll be right there in the thick of things.
Expect all 5 times to be in this thing, making this race one of the more interesting ones in baseball.
Toronto Blue Jays AL East Predictions
Blue Jays Division Odds: +170
Blue Jays Win Total Odds: 87
The Blue Jays are in a crucial year.
Following this season, Jose Bautista and Edwin Encarnacion are both set for free agency and Jose Bautista has already expressed his feelings toward the situation.
What would keep them both in Toronto? A deep playoff run or World Series might get the Blue Jays a small discount on both.
The big question mark for this team will be the starting pitching. The rotation is rather weak and has a lot of question marks. If they can pull off a solid performance, this team will be set.
New York Yankees AL East Predictions
Yankees Division Odds: +350
Yankees Win Total Odds: 85
The New York Yankees continue to always be in a fight for the top of the AL East and this year should be no different.
New York went out and solidified their bullpen by acquiring Aroldis Chapman from the Reds. While Chapman is suspended for 30 games, he will provide a solid closer for the Yankees, which is something they’ve lacked over the past seasons.
Lineup wise, Brett Gardner and Jacoby Ellsbury are rather important. These two will sit at the top of the order and really be the difference makers. Getting on base and causing havoc is what they need to do to set it up for the big boys in the middle of the lineup.
Baltimore Orioles AL East Predictions
Orioles Division Odds: +750
Orioles Win Total Odds: 80 1/2
Baltimore has always just kind of been there in the AL East.
They’re a good team, but usually have 1 or 2 pieces they need that they never go out and get. Baltimore is typically a 3rd or 4th place team that will flirt around the .500 mark.
They kept Chris Davis this past offseason by signing him to a big contract as he will once again provide that pop in the middle of the order.
The key for them will be the bottom of the order. It’s very shaky after Davis and if they can’t produce, this team will once again be right in the middle of the standings.
Tampa Bay Rays AL East Predictions
Rays Division Odds: +750
Rays Win Total Odds: 78
Tampa Bay is certainly at the bottom of the totem poll in the AL East.
This team has talent, but they just have a lot of missing pieces and holes that need to be addressed. The problem for them is they’re not a big spending team. They won’t go out of their way to sign a bat for over 100 million.
Tampa Bay added Corey Dickerson, Steve Pearce, and Logan Morrison which will not only provide them with some depth, but it will also get them a little power.
Boston Red Sox AL East Predictions
Red Sox Division Odds: +175
Red Sox Win Total Odds: 85 ½
2 years ago Boston shipped away almost their entire team. Why did they do it? For 2016.
Boston was setting themselves with money and roster spots for 2 years into the future and everything went according to plan. The Red Sox added ace David Price, which will provide such a boost for their rotation and really complete it.
With David Ortiz getting set to retire at season’s end, Boston will certainly have some extra motivation this season. What a story book ending this would be to send Ortiz out with another ring.
