The unbeaten West Virginia Mountaineers have ridden their defense and their quarterback to an undefeated start and a top 10 ranking.
Now, they head to Stillwater to take on Oklahoma State hoping to keep their undefeated record alive and avenge their overtime home loss to the Cowboys last season.
West Virginia Mountaineers
The Mountaineer defense can take a lot of credit for their hot start but quarterback Skyler Howard deserves recognition as well.
It appears Howard has simplified his game from last season after completing just 55 percent of his passes and throwing 14 interceptions.

This season, Howard is completing 67 percent of his passes and has thrown just 4 picks through 6 games. Howard has totaled 15 touchdowns with 3 coming on the ground to go along with his 200 rushing yards.
Howard hasn’t been ripping off big runs like he did last season but his ability to tuck the ball and run makes him difficult to defend.
The Mountaineer defense has been spectacular – allowing just 17.8 points per game. They limited the extremely high power Texas Tech offense to just 17 points and held TCU to 10 points last week.

They will face another tough test though as Oklahoma State is averaging 41 points per game this season and Mason Rudolph has gotten hot.
Rudolph has thrown 8 touchdowns and no interceptions in the Cowboys three game winning streak.
He will be a similar challenge to Texas Tech’s Patrick Mahomes – who the Mountaineers limited to 305 yards and 1 touchdown. If you saw Mahomes throw for 734 yards on Oklahoma last week, you will recognize how impressive limiting him to 305 is.
Howard should be able to capitalize on an average Oklahoma State defense that has weaknesses as it has allowed 51 total points in the last two weeks to Iowa State and Kansas – two of the weaker offenses in the Big 12.
Oklahoma State Cowboys
There were high hopes for the Cowboys as they entered this season despite having lost their last 3 of the 2015 season after a 10-0 start.
A slow start for the Cowboys led to 2 losses in the first 4 weeks but they have since rebounded with wins in their last 3 games.
A big reason has been the play of Rudolph who threw for 540 yards against Pittsburgh and followed with 392 two weeks later against Texas.
Now, Rudolph will be faced with the task of beating a Mountaineer defense that – as seen above – shut down Mahomes and Texas Tech’s highly ranked offense.
And, on defense they will need to slow down a West Virginia offense that is averaging over 500 yards per game.

Slow starts have been a theme for the Cowboys lately as they needed to rally from a 17 point deficit to beat Iowa State a few weeks ago and led Kansas by just 4 at halftime last week before forcing a few turnovers and winning by 24.
A slow start this week will put them in big trouble against a top 10 team and a West Virginia defense that has allowed just 13 second half points in the last three games.

Free Week 9 NCAA Football Prediction
I think Howard and Rudolph are going to dual it out in this game and put up some points.
Both teams have high powered offenses and I think Rudolph and the Cowboys will trump the solid Mountaineer defense who might be due for a bad game.
4* Free NCAA Betting Pick: Game Total Over 65.0
I think the Cowboys find a way to win this game at home but it should be a high scoring affair. Expect Rudolph and Howard to both have big games.
