The UCLA Bruins enter this contest ranked 18th in the nation and coming off a 38-23 loss to the Arizona State Sun Devils — their first dropped game of the season.
The Stanford Cardinal enter this contest 15th in the nation and coming off a 55-17 beatdown of the Arizona Wildcats — their fourth win in a row after dropping the season opener in ugly fashion to Northwestern.

At this point in the season, UCLA is 2-3 against the spread, while Stanford is 4-1.
The Cardinal are 6.5-point favorites for Friday night’s contest.
UCLA
The Bruins are looking to bounce back following their recent upset loss to ASU, but things aren’t going to get easier against a Stanford squad that is on fire. Luckily for UCLA, it is coming off a bye week, which means more rest and more time to put that loss behind them.

If the Bruins are going to put up a better showing against Stanford than it did against Arizona State, it’s going to need better individual performances from tailback Paul Perkins and quarterback Josh Rosen. Rosen, despite tossing two scores in the contest, completed just 22 of his 40 passes for 280 yards, and Perkins went for just 63 yards on 18 rushing attempts.
Defensively, this group needs to find a way to make up for the loss of linebacker Myles Jack. The 20-year-old, who was set to miss the rest of the season with a torn meniscus, has withdrawn from the university in an attempt to rehab his injury and prepare for his run at the NFL next year.
Stanford
This team’s success has been a direct result of quarterback Kevin Hogan’s stellar play. In the team’s last game against Arizona (the team has not played since Oct. 3 because of a Week 6 bye), the man behind center was nearly as efficient as can be.
He completed 17 of 19 tosses, didn’t turn the ball over and threw for two scores.

On the year, Hogan’s completion percentage is 68 percent, which makes it clear to see how the Cardinal have ridden his success to a 4-1 record.
