Tulsa heads to the desert this week in a non-conference match up to face New Mexico. Both teams are 1-0 and while New Mexico crushed a cream puff Mississippi Valley State 66-0 Tulsa needed OT to beat Florida Atlantic.
Both of these teams finished under .500 last season and the winner will go 2-0 and get closer to their goal of being bowl eligible.
The Lobos are all about the run and that may present a big-time problem for the Golden Hurricane.
Tulsa has a high-octane offense and if the Lobos can run the ball well it will slow the pace of the game.
Tulsa has to be worried facing the Lobos and their legit ground attack since they gave up 300 rushing yards in their season opener against Florida Atlantic.

Last season Tulsa was 2-10 and New Mexico was 4-8.
Tulsa
Offense, offense, offense is what the Golden Hurricane are all about and in their win over Florida Atlantic they racked up 618 total yards (424 passing yards 194 rushing yards).
While Dane Evans passed for 424 yards with 2 TD in the FAU game he was picked off twice. In his career he has just as many INT as TD and will face a New Mexico front line that had 6 sacks in their win over Mississippi Valley State.
The UNM secondary has to be wary of the WR duo of Keevan Lucas and Keyarris Garrett, who combined for 356 receiving yards in the season opener.
The Golden Hurricane did have a solid ground game in the opener, but playing solid pass defense and getting to Evans in the pocket will be key for the Lobos in this game.

Not only did the Lobos have 6 sacks against MVS, but they also had 13 stops for negative yards.
New Mexico
It is no secret that Tulsa has to play better run defense in this game than they did against Florida Atlantic.
They have to contain Daryl Chestnut and duel-threat QB Lamar Jordan and if they can do that and keep them from having big games on the ground they should win this game.
The New Mexico defense was not every good last season, but they return several key players. Evans is mistake prone and the Lobos have to take advantage of that.

New Mexico will be able to run the ball well, which is why they will win and start the season 2-0 for the first time since 2005.

Week 2 NCAA Football Prediction
Tulsa won a barnburner last week and while this will be another high scoring affair they will not come out on top against UNM.

The Lobos are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games after accumulating more than 200 yards rushing in their previous game and that trend will continue in this game.
