Preseason implications for each of these teams may have pegged this one as Texas blowing out Iowa State. But things have changed over the last eight weeks.
The Longhorns struggled out of the gate and had many questioning Charlie Strong’s position with Texas.

Iowa State has mustered just two wins thus far – one against FCS opponent Northern Iowa and the other against winless Kansas. This game will be a chance for them to knock off Texas at home – something they have never done.
Texas
Texas seems to have figured things out the last couple weeks picking up wins against Oklahoma and Kansas State. But losing on this road trip to Iowa State would have their program back under embarrassing circumstances.
The Longhorns are 11-1 all-time against Iowa State with their lone loss coming in 2010 at home by a touchdown. While this Texas team hasn’t played up to the program’s historical expectations, they are less likely to overlook Iowa State.
The Texas team has had a pretty even balance of struggles and triumphs so they have no reason to become overconfident.
This game against Iowa State will be a good opportunity for the Longhorns to keep things rolling for their final stretch of Big 12 games.

Freshman quarterback Jerrod Heard has had his fair of struggles this season and it has certainly been a learning experience for him. This opportunity against Iowa State’s struggle defense could be helpful for him.
The bright side of Heard is he hasn’t been turning the football over. Through seven games, he has turned it over just three times. He just hasn’t been very efficient.
But protecting the football will always keep Texas in the game.
If Heard continues to protect the football the way he has and the defense that has showed up the last two weeks shows up on Saturday, Texas will be in a good position to win this game.
Iowa State
The Cyclones don’t have much to hang their hat on in this 2015 season. Their lone wins are against awful opponents – Northern Iowa and Kansas. But, they have made some changes on offense.
Their offensive coordinator is out and there will be a new starting quarterback this week. Joel Lanning will take over at quarterback this week with a tall task on his hands as Iowa State looks to avoid dropping to 2-6.

Offensive changes can be a good thing for a struggling football team. But, they don’t always provide immediate results. Texas’s defense has been playing well the last few weeks so it could be even more difficult to try to get things rolling.
The Iowa State defense really has struggled giving up 52 points per game over the last three games. If Heard’s rushing game gets rolling, the Texas offense could get rolling.
The Cyclones offense made some changes with their personnel but the defense needs to change their performance if Iowa State wants a chance to win this football game.
