There is no doubt who the stronger team is this year but the Gamecocks have dominated in this series lately winning 4 of the last 5 – yes a number of games have been close.
This is not shaping up for the best year in Columbia after a home loss to Kentucky last week that cost them their quarterback.

So far we have seen nothing that tells us the Dawgs are not the best team in the SEC East.
South Carolina
The expectations were more tempered for the Gamecocks this season and after a nice win over North Carolina there might have been some optimism.
Last week that feeling definitely took a hit as the Gamecocks lost to Kentucky, at home, and lost their starting QB Connor Mitch in the process.
Junior Perry Orth looked pretty good filling in but he had thrown only three passes before last week and is still an unknown. It will be interesting to see if Spurrier can work his QB magic. It has been eluding him at SC.
On defense they should be pretty good but they don’t have the star power they have had over the last few seasons. They won’t get pushed around but there is nothing to get excited about.

Spurrier has had Mark Richt’s number often but this would really be a surprise win. It is likely not going to be competitive.
Georgia
The Dawgs are 2-0 and have looked pretty good but they are not yet where they need to be if they want to be a serious threat to win the SEC.
That is because QB Greyson Lambert has been so-so and the jury is out as to whether he is the right player to lead the team and the attack.
Fortunately the run game led by Nick Chubb has been strong. Chubb has been averaging almost 9 yards per carry and they have as deep a stable of backs as anyone in the country.

The defense has potential but I don’t like the fact that they gave up 400 yards to Vanderbilt last week.
However, until they lose a game they are going to remain my pick for the top team in the SEC East.
