The Tigers started the season playing so well but the last couple of weeks have likely exposed them for what they really are.
The new Nebraska regime has started with a bevy of heartbreaking close losses. Their four losses are by a total of 11 points.
The Wildcats season started so well with a surprising win over Stanford, which propelled them to a 5-0 start and a rise in the national rankings. They were beating people and posting impressive defensive numbers, until a couple of weeks ago.
Over the last couple of weeks they have lost to Michigan and Iowa by a combined scored of 78-10.
Good teams just don’t lose like that so I think it is safe to say they got exposed.
The rest of the schedule is easy enough or difficult enough for them to end their slide or sink deeper .
In looking at their recent struggles the culprits are simple: Offense and defense. This team struggled to score all season long and when the defense stopped holding teams to low totals they had no way to play catchup.
On the road, against Nebraska, it is going to be difficult to hold the opponent to a number that will work for the Wildcats. But if you look at their recent history these teams tend to play close games.
The Huskers are entering this one with a losing record. They have been close so many times this season and seemingly always comes up short.
Things have to turn at some point, right?
How is this for balance? The Huskers are 51st in points scored and 52nd points allowed. Those numbers also sum up that they are middle of the pack…but with potential.
That is because you can see more evidence of the transition of QB Tommy Armstrong from elite athlete to field general all the time.
He can be a treat to watch at times with his long strides and strong arm and he is getting better and controlling the game.
It seems like he has been around forever but he is only a junior.
If Nebraska truly is better than its record they need to show it in this one.
