So far this is a banner year for the service academies.
Usually it is the winner of this game that determines the winner of the Commander in Chief Trophy but this season it is looking like Army is going to have something to say about that.
This is not always the prettiest of football games but there is a lot at stake.

The home team has won the last three in the series, covering each time in games that have not been close.
I was a little surprised about the opening line on this one but I do think Air Force is probably the strongest of the three programs at the moment (they visit Army if you are keeping track of that sort of stuff).
Navy Midshipmen
The Middies are 3-0 but this game begins the very challenging part of their schedule – they have Houston next week and could certainly get caught looking ahead as a win over the Cougars would thrust them into the national spotlight.
Even though the wins have been hardly exciting, they have covered in each (one push).
Navy is not expected to be as dynamic without Keenan Reynolds but so far they have managed just fine without their star of the last few seasons.

Reynolds was an all timer, so far Will Worth has been good enough – you can almost imagine the punny headlines if they keep winning.
Nothing new with Navy in terms of approach.
They are killing it in the running game, averaging better than 300ypg (5th) while playing bend but don’t break defense. They execute as well as any team in the country
Air Force Falcons
Air Force’s path to this game is pretty similar to Navy’s. A few easy wins, covering the last two games against FBS competition.
They are also cranking out the yardage on ground – 2nd at near 360ypg – with a defense that has been especially stout against the run – 2nd in the nation again.
Their opponents to date have not been able to test them the way Navy will and it is always interesting when option teams play other option teams. Just to see what wrinkles they can throw in their.

In terms of wrinkles and throwing Falcons QB Nate Romine knows how to air it out. His passing numbers won’t grab you but he has a big arm and in Jalen Robinette a big target on the outside.
He missed this game a year ago, a game in which Reynolds ran all over the Falcons. Air Force was off that day averaging less than 4ypc. At home they will be just that much sharper and with revenge on their mind.
These service academies take these ones pretty seriously.

Free Week 5 NCAA Football Prediction
That extra half point will be interesting for this one. I think it will draw initial action onto the Navy side.
The question is whether it will ever bring it down to 7 where the home team instantly becomes a more much comfortable proposition.
4* Free NCAA Betting Pick: Air Force -7.5
Thought I might wait to see how the line moves I will be backing Air Force.
They are a great sleeper in the MWC and I have yet to see season to move off them. Their run defense might take a few body blows but they should hold up enough to get a nice home win.
Another spot where a teaser could be awesome value as it brings you under a key number.
