Despite a valiant effort last week against Iowa, Indiana is still searching for their first conference win and their first win overall since September 26th.
They will have their hands full with a Michigan team that has surprised many but shows no signs of slipping up.

Michigan’s two losses have come against Utah and Michigan State – both currently ranked in the College Football Playoff’s Top 13. They will look to keep their slim Big Ten East hopes alive against a struggling Indiana team that might be due for a win.
Michigan
What Jim Harbaugh has done at Michigan has been very impressive with all things considered. He inherited a team that went 5-7 last season including losses to Rutgers and Maryland.
The Wolverines now sit at 7-2 and have an outside shot at a spot in the Big 10 Championship. They would need some things to fall their way but running the table including a game against Ohio State at home would certainly help.
Statistically, it is hard to look at Michigan’s offense and imagine how they are averaging nearly 31 points per game. Quarterback Jake Rudock has been good but not great.
Their rushing attack led by De’Veon Smith has been solid but hasn’t been dominant when Smith has been out with an injury.

The reason their offense has been able to put points on the board starts with their defense.
They have allowed just 11.9 points per game and only 240 total yards per game. When a defense is that stifling, it sets up good field position for the offense.
Rudock and Smith are able to move the ball effectively and break the occasional big play. The Wolverines aren’t winning with offense. They won’t need to be better than they have thus far as they are up against an Indiana defense that has been awful.
If the defense plays the way they’ve been playing, Michigan shouldn’t have a problem with the Hoosiers.
Indiana
Nothing new here. The Hoosiers are still looking for their first conference win. They have been close at home – losing their three home conference games by an average of 6 points.

With Nate Sudfeld and Jordan Howard healthy, the Indiana offense is dynamic. Sudfeld struggled a bit against Iowa last week but was impressive in losses to Michigan State and Rutgers.
Howard has rushed for 145 yards or more in five of the seven games he has played in. The transfer from UAB is averaging 6.1 yards per carry and has found the end zone seven times this season.
The Indiana offensive line will need to be on the top of its game in order to get Howard going. Michigan’s defense is allowing 80 rushing yards per game.
Indiana’s defense has been awful and has shown no signs of getting better. They’re allowing 37 points per game along with over 500 yards per game.
It is hard to imagine that things will fall together against one of the big boys of the Big 10.
Indiana might be due for a win – given their offensive abilities – but it is difficult to think it will come this week against Michigan.

Indiana will find a way to put up some points against Michigan’s great defense but it won’t nearly be enough to make up for their atrocious defense.
