This isn’t exactly the SEC matchup that people wait all season for. Given the way Kentucky and Vanderbilt have performed lately, it is fair to say these are the two least intriguing teams in the conference.
But, that doesn’t mean it isn’t intriguing for them.
Once conference play starts, it is rare for either of these programs to come across a game they feel confident they can win. Given the small point spread, both teams likely feel that way approaching this matchup.
Kentucky
After starting 4-1 with conference wins against Missouri and South Carolina and their lone loss by 5 to Florida, it looked as if Kentucky would be more competitive in the always competitive SEC.

Since then though, the wheels have fallen off. The Wildcats have dropped four straight with the last three being blowouts. They’ll try to right the ship against a Vanderbilt team that has struggled nearly as much.
Kentucky’s defense is even worse than the numbers show. They’ve given up 151 points in their last four games. They have allowed an average of 28.9 points per game throughout the course of the whole season.
However, that number is dragged down by the 14 they gave up to Florida and 13 to Missouri – both offensively changed football teams.
Saturday’s matchup with Vanderbilt could provide some confidence for the defense as the Commodores sport one of the worst offenses in the country.
Vanderbilt has averaged just 14.9 points per game – another number that is skewed because of a 47 point output against Austin Peay.

Kentucky does have an opportunity to keep itself in contention for a bowl game though. After Vanderbilt, the Wildcats have Charlotte and Louisville left on the schedule – both games they could win.
Since their hot start, the Wildcats’ offense has gotten worse and worse as the losing streak has continued.
Last week at Georgia, the Wildcats generated just 180 yards of total offense.
It won’t get any easier this week; the Commodores are allowing just 17.9 points per game. They’ve been solid against even some of the best SEC teams.
Vanderbilt
After nearly beating the Florida Gators last Saturday, Vanderbilt will get to head home for a much easier matchup. Kentucky is limping into this matchup while the Commodores proved a lot last week in the game against Florida.
The offense still hasn’t looked good yet but a matchup with Kentucky could make that a little easier. The Wildcat defense has been struggling recently and Johnny McCrary and the Vanderbilt offense will look to capitalize.
McCrary was so so bad last week and the expectations are that Vanderbilt will use both him and Kyle Shurmur this week. McCrary really has been consistently bad all season long. But, Shurmur hasn’t proven yet that he is ready to take the job from him.
For Vanderbilt to win, they’ll need the running game to be as good as it was last weekend. Ralph Webb ran for 118 yards and a touchdown on 22 carries against a very good Gator defense.

The Commodore defense has been great but if the offense can’t get first downs and move the ball down the field they will get worn out. Nine games in and the offense hasn’t shown too many signs of improvement. This matchup with a struggling defense could help but don’t expect a lot of points from either side in this one.

Free Week 11 NCAA Football Prediction
Both teams could use two quarterbacks in this game as they will both try to get some offense going. Don’t expect much scoring and excitement in this one. The bet to take here is the under, but Vandy is playing the better football right now.
4* Free NCAA Betting Pick: Vanderbilt -3.0
Hammer the under in this one but don’t bother watching. It’ll be ugly. Real ugly.
