Both teams had impressive Week 1s as Hawaii and Ohio State enter their Week 2 matchup both at 1-0.
The home team, Ohio State, propelled by some highlight reel plays in the 2nd half, pulled away from Virginia Tech for a lopsided blowout win.
Af for Hawaii, not too many people got a look at them as they entered their midnight eastern contest as 8 point underdogs against the Colorado Buffaloes. Hawaii won the game outright 28-20 and looked very impressive on both sides of the ball.
Kickoff is set for high noon on Saturday.
Before getting into all the good Hawaii had in Week 1, it’s tough to overlook the pure fact this team has been miserable on the road in the past years. Overall, Hawaii brings in a 1-18 S.U. road record in their last 19 games away from the Island.
Still, Hawaii has a lot to enjoy following their Week 1 outright victory.
USC transfer QB Max Wittek put on a show in his first game in a Hawaii jersey as he tossed 3 touchdowns to go along with 202 yards. It was the first time in over 30 years a Hawaii QB threw for 3 touchdowns in his debut.
Wittek found a lot of chemistry with WR Marcus Kemp who nearly had a career day. Kemp caught 6 passes for 116 yards to go along with a touchdown reception.
Defensively, which was a major concern for Hawaii, looked phenomenal in shutting down Colorado. The defensive line was stellar, including Luke Shawley who had 14 tackles and a couple sacks to his name.
It was a tale of two halves for the Ohio State Buckeyes in their Monday affair with the Virginia Tech Hokies. Ohio State raced out to a 14-0 lead, but saw the Hokies strike for 17 unanswered to lead at half.
However, Ohio State behind Braxton Miller and Cardale Jones, the Buckeyes erupted to a 28-0 run as they finished off the Hokies 42-24.
WR Braxton Miller made the highlight of the night as he caught a pass spun around 2 defenders and took it to the house. Miller adjusted to the WR role in the offseason as Ohio State had Jones and Barrett both competing for the QB job.
RB Ezekiel Elliot rushed for 122 yards which marked the 6th straight game dating back to last season that the RB had at least 100 yards.
With so many questions surrounding the starting QB job, Cardale Jones marched out with the first team as he threw for 186 yards and a pair of touchdowns to go along with his 99 rush yards.
Jones picked up right where he left off from the Big Ten Championship and two BCS Playoff games in 2014.

The Buckeyes are currently listed as 40 point favorites which is a giant spread to cover. Hawaii showed they aren’t that bad of a team as they pulled off the outright upset Week 1. With that, lets not get crazy and talk about how Hawaii can win this game, because they won’t. But staying relevant is definitely a possibility.
