I can’t explain it but there is something nice about when universities who are not driven by football meet on the gridiron, especially these two, who are proving they can compete within their league of late.
These teams met last year with Northwestern winning on the road. The Wildcats are desperate for a win in this one to get their season back on track.

Interesting timing of the game here, especially given that there is not a ton at stake from a national perspective.
Northwestern has to be hoping that they can spook the Dookies with a night game.
Given the way the first couple of weeks has gone they will take any advantage they can get. It has been an uncomfortable start to say the least
Duke Blue Devils
A regression to the mean is expected for Duke this might be the season. Last week they opened their ACC schedule with a home loss to Wake Forest, who most consider the worst team in the conference.
One of the reasons for their success is that once they stopped being a doormat they started beating them so the result is concerning.
Once the Demon Deacons got their game going they just had no answers. Hitting the road hardly seems like the solution either.

Freshman Daniel Jones looks like the next in a nice line of quarterbacks who is learning from the master – head coach David Cutcliffe.
He was the bright spot last week against Wake throwing for more than 330 yards while also scoring a couple of touchdowns on the ground.
He and receiver Anthony Nash are more like a lethal backcourt as both are 6’5″. Nash is looking like an awesome breakout candidate as a senior.
Northwestern Wildcats
Northwestern has lost its first two games by a combined score of three points but they have to have the alarms set to DEFCON 1.
Losing to Western Michigan in the opener has some level of acceptability but to lose last week against Illinois State at home is certainly not.
They are an FCS team and they should have been fodder for a B10 program that won 10 games a year ago and is a sleeper heading into the season thanks to a solid defense.
Thus far the offense has been Justin Jackson, an impressive running back for sure, but when he doesn’t get going, like he didn’t against Illinois State the Wildcats do not have a lot of counters.

Clayton Thorson is not directing the attack all that deftly which is a shame because now that Trevor Siemian is leading the Broncos teams are bound to start looking in his direction for who’s next.
Last year the offense was bad and this year they are below where they were a year ago.

Free Week 3 NCAA Football Prediction
I love coach Pat Fitzgerald but this might be his most impressive coaching job if he can get this club turned around. After the first couple of weeks there are few positives to build on so he has his work cut out for him.
4* Free NCAA Betting Pick: Northwestern -3.5
If I was going to take this game right now I would pay a little extra to lose that half point. Maybe they don’t need it but it would make me a lot more comfortable.
NW has to get their offense going for this one.
Duke is hardly a dominant D but things were so bad last week that something has to change on Saturday. Not exactly appointment viewing but the Wildcats get there first win of the season.
