The Eagles are looking a lot like last year’s team that was very good defensively but struggled on offense. Losing to GT in Ireland to start the season was tough, that was anyone’s game, truly.
Last week against UMass they probably should have been better even though they covered. This group leaves you wanting more that’s for sure.
Virginia Tech had a big game against Tennessee last week but couldn’t muster enough in the spectacle at Bristol Motor Speedway.
This will be their first conference game though and realistically the best they can hope for is to be competitive in the ACC Coastal division under new coach Justin Fuente.
Still too early to tell how good they will be.
Boston College Eagles
It is plain and simple the Eagles have to find a way to move the ball on offense.

They have just 40 points over the first couple of games and are not looking all that different from a year ago.
Patrick Towles was supposed to spice up the passing game but you can easily make the case that he has been more effective as a runner.
Jon Hilliman is a beast at 230 pounds but he was stymied against UMass, it doesn’t make any sense to me.

So far the defense has looked pretty good.
They were helped by the fact that the conditions were really wet when they played Georgia Tech but completely shutdown UMass last week, save a first quarter touchdown.
Until (or once) the offense finds its footing the defense might have to hold opponents to 2 TDS or less to win.
Virginia Tech Hokies
The Hokies are looking to get back to winning at a nice clip under new coach Justin Fuente. Known more as an offensive guru the hope is that he can get that unit firing at a high enough level for the Hokies to be contenders in the Coastal.
Thus far the results have been middling. QB Jerod Evans has a nice frame and he has looked good but most of his production came in a win over FCS Liberty.
Virginia Tech could have beaten Tennessee were it not for 5 lost fumbles.
I am not blaming the coach but it definitely does not seem like the kind of thing that could have happened when Frank Beamer was roaming the sidelines.

Also, there has to be concern for the defense as it allowed Tennessee to run for more 230 yards including more than 100 from quarterback Josh Dobbs.
So far this is nothing like the team we are used to seeing.

Free Week 3 NCAA Football Prediction
Boston College is not going to win their division but an 0-2 ACC start gets their season off to a pretty rocky start. Still I think that is what we can expect as the offense is still not producing with enough regularity.
4* Free NCAA Betting Pick: Virginia Tech -6
Boston College does not yield easily but this VT offense does look like it will eventually break through, especially at home.
Travon McMillan is an underrated back who gouged a Tennessee front that is going to be sending multiple players to the pros.
I also like Evans being able to connect with his receivers enough to keep the BC offense honest.
