Here’s a look at five teams you should keep your handicapping eye on for the second edition of the NCAAF BCS 2016 Football Playoff.
Ohio State (NCAA Odds +180)
The Buckeyes weren’t supposed to win the national title last season. This was supposed to be the year that everything came together for Urban Meyer’s squad. They’ve been dominant in every facet of the game, even if some juggling at the quarterback position’s been needed.

J.T. Barrett’s going to miss some games due to suspension, but at least the team finally came around and realized he’s the better option under center than Cardale Jones. They’re charging full speed ahead toward a repeat performance in national title game.
Alabama (NCAA Odds +600)
Nick Saban must be loving flying under the radar after years of being planted firmly in the spotlight. LSU is driving the bus in the SEC West right now, but the Tigers are going to have to make the trip out to Tuscaloosa this weekend. If the Tide take care of that one, they’ll be the ones in the driver’s seat.

Beyond that, the Tide have a solid defense, and a good enough running game to light up their side of the scoreboard. When the chips are down, no team is going to want to line up opposite Alabama come Playoff time.
TCU (NCAA Odds +1500)
No team’s had closer attention paid to them than the Horned Frogs who were robbed of a spot in the inaugural College Football Playoff. The team’s offense remains just as potent with Trevone Boykin under center, and Gary Patterson’s defense can come up big at times.
The tough part of the schedule is still in front of TCU. The Horned Frogs will need to make trips to Stillwater and Norman in the month of November, but if the team can get through those matchups, there’ll be no keeping them out of the Playoff this time around, and there’ll be no more determined group once they get there.
Iowa (NCAA Odds +2500)
Iowa’s been the surprise team in college football this season. The Hawkeyes have been solid enough on offense and defense to put together an undefeated record thus far. There aren’t any tricky matchups on the rest of their schedule, so an undefeated record is very much attainable.
Someone has to win the Big Ten West, so the path is paved for them to the Big Ten title game. They’ll meet a tough opponent there, likely Ohio State or Michigan State, but if the Hawkeyes can win that matchup, they’re all but assured a spot in the top four come the final set of College Football Playoff rankings.
Florida (NCAA Odds +8000)
Many were quick to write off the Gators when Will Grier was lost for the season, particularly when that announcement was followed by a loss. But Grier’s hardly a world-beater. Treon Harris is a capable replacement, and Jim McElwain will keep him in favorable spots the rest of the way.
As for the loss, it’s never easy going into Death Valley at night, and the Gators put forth a valiant effort in that game.

With its win over Georgia this past weekend, Florida is very much in the driver’s seat in the SEC East, and a spot in the SEC title game is lined up.
