WHERE EACH TEAM STANDS HEADING INTO WEEK 17
Week 16 is in the books and if it proved one thing it is that there is no sure-thing in the NFL! Need proof? How about Carolina’s loss to the Falcons or Pittsburgh’s shocking loss to the Ravens? How about Seattle getting handled by St. Louis at home? The Power Rankings reflect the fluid nature that is the NFL this week – a shakeup at the top was unforeseen but necessary.

So where does your favorite team sit heading into Week 17?
Let’s take a look.
1. Arizona Cardinals
(13-2) Last Week – 2
How good did the Arizona Cardinals look on Sunday? So good that they blew the Packers out of the state in a 38-8 beatdown. The Cards defense actually outscored the Green Bay offense in this one – impressive to say the least. Arizona has now won nine straight games and looks like it has absolutely zero weaknesses – they are a deserving #1 this week.

2. Carolina Panthers
(14-1) Last Week – 1
How did the Panthers lose to the lowly Falcons? Seriously! After all Carolina beat Atlanta 38-0 just a couple of weeks ago! Cam Newton finally struggled on Sunday and the team paid the price. There is a school of thought out there that Atlanta may have come up with THE formula to beat this team going forward – I’m not buying it – Carolina was due for a dud and that’s exactly what they got!
3. New England Patriots
(12-3) Last Week – 3
The Pats hold onto the #3 spot but barely. Pretty interesting decision by Bill Belichick in OT to give the ball to the Jets for the first possession – Bill showed that he is actually human! New England was without a slew of playmakers on Sunday and still made it interesting. Once healthy (and they will be for the playoffs), the Pats are still the best team in the AFC.
4. Kansas City Chiefs
(10-5) Last Week – 6
The Chiefs won their ninth straight game on Sunday – unspectacular against Cleveland but effective nonetheless. The defense has surrendered 10 points per game the last three weeks and the offense has done just enough. Don’t sleep on KC – they are as balanced as any team in the AFC right now.
5. Minnesota Vikings
(10-5) Last Week – 10
The Vikes continue to be one of the best stories in the NFL – they absolutely beat down the Odell Beckham-less Giants on Sunday night. I’m not sure that Beckham would have made much of a difference honestly. Teddy Bridgewater is coming of age and the defense which is getting healthier looked unstoppable Sunday against Eli. Minnesota could wrap up the NFC North on Sunday when they travel to Lambeau – who saw that coming?

6. Seattle Seahawks
(9-6) Last Week – 4
The Hawks didn’t look great in any aspect of the game on Sunday – the O-line couldn’t protect Russell Wilson, the running game was ineffective and the sixth best offense in the game could only generate 13 points at home against the Rams. I am willing to give Seattle a mulligan for their Sunday performance but I am a bit concerned that there is a recipe for defeating this team.
7. Denver Broncos
(10-4) Last Week – 9
Am I convinced that Brock Osweiler can take the Broncos to the promise land – NO. Am I impressed with the way that he led a comeback on Monday night – YES. The Broncos are an OK team – worthy of the top 10 but not quite elite anymore. So #7 seems about right for this team.
8. New York Jets
(10-5) Last Week 11
The Jets beat the Patriots Sunday – that alone is enough to vault them into the top 10 in the Rankings. Ryan Fitzpatrick continues to be one of the most pleasant surprises in the game, Brandon Marshall has been off the charts and the running game with a healthy Bilal Powell looks dynamic right now. New York is a strong, confident club right now as we head into the final week – dangerous indeed.
9. Cincinnati Bengals
(11-3) Last Week 7
Come back Andy! Come back! Cincinnati proved that they are a scrappy bunch on Monday night but are a WAY different club with AJ McCarron at the helm.
10. Green Bay Packers
(10-5) Last Week – 5
Ugh! The Packers were steamrolled by the Cardinals on Sunday 38-8 in a game that Aaron Rodgers was sacked eight times and he turned the ball over three times. Green Bay is the least impressive 10-5 team in the league right now – their O-line, their defense and their inconsistent running game is hardly inspiring right now!
11. Washington Redskins
(8-7) Last Week – 12
The Redskins have officially found their QB of the future – Kirk Cousins seems to have made everyone on the team better. The Skins clinched the NFC East and will head into the playoffs with one of the hottest offenses in the game. Three straight wins have the Skins moving up a spot in the Rankings this week.

12. Houston Texans
(8-7) Last Week – 13
Who says that strong, consistent QB play is essential in the NFL? The Texans won Sunday with their fourth starting QB of the season – this time it was the horrible Brandon Weeden who made even Dez Bryant look bad! It seems that as long as the Texans have DeAndre Hopkins catching passes, they will be in the mix every week!
13. Pittsburgh Steelers (9-6) Last Week – 8
14. Buffalo Bills (7-8) Last Week – 17
15. Oakland Raiders (7-8) Last Week – 16
16. Indianapolis Colts (7-8) Last Week – 19
