BET ON NHL ODDS!
The new year is upon us, and it brings NHL bettors many more opportunities to cash in. With the slate of games having slowed down somewhat, it’s a good time to take another look at the futures board for chances to beat the books on some long-term plays, with odds that haven’t seen much action recently.

The NHL season is nearing its midway point, and teams have begun to show their true colors as playoff races begin to take shape. Here’s a look at three top teams, three mid-level teams, and three long shots, with a recommended pick from each category.

Dallas Stars 7-1
The Stars have all the talent in the world up front, and are now supplementing that with some strong play on the back end. The addition of Antti Niemi has proven ingenious as the competition between the pipes has worked out great for Dallas.
Chicago Blackhawks 7-1
The Blackhawks could have folded up and stayed quiet with all the Patrick Kane mess that they’ve had to deal with in recent months, but instead, the team has played terrific hockey. No team in the league wants to run into Jonathan Toews and co. in the spring.
Washington Capitals 7-1
Alex Ovechkin continues lighting the lamp on a regular basis, and now he’s getting some help from a few of his friends with the emergence of young stud Evgeny Kuznetsov, combined with the stellar goaltending of backstop Braden Holtby. Washington’s the favorite in the Eastern Conference.
The play: Stars 7-1

Montreal Canadiens 12-1
The Canadiens looked to be on pace to run away with the Presidents’ Trophy after a blistering start to the season. But the team’s offense cooled off, and Carey Price got hurt. Now’s a very good time to get behind the team at a discounted price before they get Price back and heat up again.
New York Rangers 12-1
The Rangers typically wait until the spring before they pull everything together, but Henrik Lundqvist got to the top of his game earlier than normal. He’s so good at his job that it seems like there will come a time where he breaks through and wins a Cup.
Boston Bruins 16-1
The Bruins started slow, but have figured things out and are starting to get on a roll. Goaltender Tuukka Rask is finally back to playing the way we’d expect him to, and the team’s scoring lines are finally, well, scoring. David Krejci has to be one of the most underrated playmakers in hockey.
The play: Canadiens 12-1
Pittsburgh Penguins 30-1
A midseason coaching change is rarely a good thing, but the Penguins needed a kick in the pants, and things seem to be working out a little better than they were now with a tweak to the team’s system. There’s too much talent on the roster to ignore the Penguins altogether.
Ottawa Senators 30-1
The Senators have a transcendent talent in defenseman Erik Karlsson, who has to be considered the modern day Bobby Orr. The team has shown that it can get hot at the right time and make a run. Few teams have mastered the art of playoff hockey like the Senators.
Winnipeg Jets 60-1
In the early part of the season, the Jets showed flashes of a team that could be completely dominant. There’s certainly plenty of scoring punch up and down the lineup. They need to get Nik Ehlers up onto a scoring line, and figure things out between the pipes.
The play: Jets 60-1
