Game of the day was without a doubt was the battle between the Panthers and Chargers. Despite being jobbed twice by the replay officials, the Panthers hung tough and won the game as Jake Delhomme, making a sucessful return to the lineup, connects with Dante Rosario on the contests final play that propelled the Panthers to a 26-24 come from behind win.

In the first half on a 3rd and long, Rivers completes a pass for a first down but CLEARLY was past the line of scrimmage when the throw was made...however no call was made and the Panthers wisely used a challenge to contest the play. After reviewing the play, the officials flat out jam a Louisville Slugger up the Panthers ass and do not overturn the call......instead of 4th and forever the Chargers get the 1st down. On the next play, the Chargers connnect on a 50-yard TD pass for their only score of the 1st half.

In the 4th quarter with the Panthers up 19-17, once again a bad call is made as the Chargers are awarded a fumble on a play where the receiver was down and the ground jarred the ball loose on contact. Once again a challenge is used only to have the call upheld.....in defense of the crew on that one there appeared to be no clear view of the play for the booth to look at.....however, from various angles you never see the ball come loose until the Panterhs receiver hits the ground hard. Chargers take advantage of the good fortune and score to go up 24-19 with just over two minutes remaining.... setting the stage for the heroics of Delhomme.

Any of the people who think that Jake Delhomme is an inadequate QB needs to closely watch the throws he made on the final drive of the game. This team needs Jake and with him behind center will be a viable contender in the NFC this season.

Key loss of the day and possibly the sign of changes in the power structure of the league occured as New England Tom Brady left the game against the Chiefs and possibly may miss the entire season with a knee injury. Could this single injury signal the demise of the league's most dominant franchise of the decade? The Patroits were able to regroup and capture a 17-10 win, but the future of the this club could hinge on Brady's ability to return from this devastating injury.

Big winners on Week 1 were Pittsburgh, who throttled the the Texans by a count of 38-17, meanwhile the Eagles were completely demolishing the 3-legged Rams behind a huge day for Donavan McNabb in a 38-3 ass thumping. Buffalo "bitchslapped" the Seahawks in a 34-10 rout, and Dallas appears to be a solid regular season team again, they haven't won a playoff game in about a decade, as they simply overwhelmed the Browns, in Cleveland, by a 28-10.

Questionable road favorites, Detroit and Cincinnati, simply were put in their place by teams that mediocre at best. The Bengals were flat and enemic offensively as they lost to the Ravens, who are offensively challenged to say the least, by a 17-10 count. Detroit was slapped around by the Falcons, who were led by a rookie QB in Matt Ryan.....who thought the Lions were a good choice in this one. The Falcons ran for well over 300 yards in this contest.....nice job Lions. Just goes to show that only elite teams in this league are worthy of being favored away from home and when crappy teams do win on the road they are almost always doing so as an underdog.

For the only time this season, there will be a pair of Monday Night contests. The Packers host the Vikings in the early contest while the "nightcap" has the Raiders hosting the Denver Broncos. I have a side selection for both of these contests and they can be purchased for only $12. If the pair of plays fail to produce a profit, one of the plays is being bet at a higher rate, you will get the next two weeks of the NFL action au gratis. The entire season of NFL selections can be purchased for only $129, and that deal includes the playoff action, a great deal for an honest, compentent service that is off to a great start after Week 1.

On another note, I want to send out some props to women's tennis newest #1 ranked player, Serena Williams. Williams regained the #1 spot for the first time since 2003 after winning the US Open final over Jelena Jankovic Sunday night. After winning an intensely well played match against her sister, Venus, in the quarterfinals, little doubt was left about her taking this title. While the US men continue to struggle, its nice to know that Serena has her game in top form and I look forward to seeing her compete in the future.... nice job Serena.
