We lost both our plays on Friday for -2.0 units. Nothing early today however there are 2 games that are close. An early and a late game. So should be at least 1 late play today.

The split between early and late plays is about 50-50 and I would expect that to continue through the rest of the season. These late plays are FREE. Just send me your email address and I will add you to the group receiving late plays.

Poker comments

I received the following email yesterday regarding when to leave a poker game when its short handed:

Rick -- Do you often get people seeking counsel on "when to leave" the poker table? A player yesterday seemed distraught about the etiquette and peer pressure he felt if he left and made the game even more short-handed. It's interesting, other than going broke, I'm sure each player has their own trip-wires for when they leave, and it be insightful to get feedback on it...

My Answer:

I used to be of the opinion that when you started short handed with players you played with every day that you had some type of obligation to play for a reasonable period of time. After i got screwed a number of times when to my surprise I was the only one that felt this type of moral obligation I then modified my opinion to that of getting a verbal agreement before the start that each player play until the game fills or a reasonable period of time win or lose. Again after getting screwed a number of times my opinion now is you do whatever you feel is best for you. You owe no one any obligation at at all. Its a casino where you are free to play 1 hand and quit if that is what you wish.

The best strategy I think is not to worry about when to quit. If the game breaks and your loser so be it. But that same person that gets ahead in a short handed game and quits time after time eventually is going to get loser and its going to be payday!!!! So you trade off short term frustration with long term gain.

I quit when im ready. If its a bad game or im playing bad and I have put in 6 to 8 hrs its an easy decision. My toughest decision is when I get on a good run early . You have to fight human nature to take your gain and leave or put in your 6 to 8 hours and be frustrated when lose it all back. Sometime I play and sometimes I quit in that circumstance usually depending on how the game is and also if I have been running bad I like to get a win now and then. Its good for morale.
