On Saturday we won both our early and late play on Atlanta for +2.74 Units.

I was very enthusiastic this morning looking over the baseball schedule but alas....nothing early I can see and also nothing even close to a play for me today...so don't expect any late plays today.

Poker comments

I received the following email:

Thanks for answering my poker questions, I love the opportunity to pick your brain about poker stuff.

I'm going to be in Vegas for a few days in Sept. I'm planning on bringing a $1000 bankroll. I'm pretty decent at No Limit, seem to get frustrated by not being able to protect my hand in limit. I have a sold omaha 8 game. What games should I look for?

In the past I've been playing the 1-2NL games, I usually cant find Omaha 8 games within my bankroll (and almost never PLO8).

By default I play a TAG game, but can also play LAG should the table be full of rocks.

I know you usually play much higher limit games, but any insight would be much appreciated! Where do you think I'm going to get the most value? 1-2NL 2-5NL, some omaha8 games? 8-16 limit?

Also assuming all the games are equal, what card rooms would you recommend. In the past Imperial Palace comped me nicely, but the games broke early morning many days. I've heard the Venetian and Wynn pay their players a decent hourly rate.

My answer:

Of course I am partial to Omaha 8 and really don't play any live no limit to speak of anymore. With a 1,000 bankroll I would think a minimum buyin and playing 1-2 no limit should give you the best opportunity.

For value I would think the Wynn is the best. Its a great place to play. Ask for a card room players card when you get there and you wont have any trouble ordering food for free.

As far as Omaha 8 the lowest limit I know is 4-8 but I think they play with a half kill. You can find that game at the Bellagio and the Orleans. Not sure they have it at the Wynn but they do have a 10-20 omaha 8 game there with a half kill that goes daily. Its a bit outside a 1000 bankroll however.

The Bellagio is probably the worst place for visitors to get comps in the poker room. Once in awhile the regulars get turned down depending upon who is on the floor. I play on the average 50 hours a week in the 30-60 with a 40-80 kill omaha 8 game and have been turned down for a comp a few times myself.
