Today Nothing early I can see although there are 3 or 4 that are close so expect some late plays.

Poker comments

I received an email that I would like to comment upon:

I'm curious about your take on the main event taking a four month break before the final table.

Personally I think it destroys the integrity of the game. However, I do understand the increase of level of interest it might cause in poker in general.

Moneymaker brought poker players barrels of fish, do you think this move might do the same thing, or does this change the way tournaments are prepared for and played?

My Response:

First I really am not a tournament player so my comments are just based upon my observations. At first I thought it was a very bad idea. It was a knee jerk reaction when I first heard of it. It gives the players time to prepare and get advice prior to the start of the final table.

However after giving it a lot of thought I have come to the conclusion that anything that adds value to the players is a good thing. The casinos get there huge percent off the top along with advertising dollars from all sorts of sources. Most players get nothing over the prize pool.

Can you imagine this type of proposal by the tournament hosts to golfers or tennis pros. The response would be immediate...they would have no players!

But poker players are not organized and probably will never be.

So the extra value that I see is that the final table will get exposure, publicity, and notoriety far beyond what they received previously. So its an extra bonus for getting to the final table. And depending upon how things go the value could far exceed the prize won.
