Derek Roy netted a hat trick and added an assist as Canada crushed Norway, 8-2, in the quarterfinal round of the 2008 World Hockey Championship.
Jonathan Toews netted a goal and contributed two assists while Rick Nash scored twice for the Canadians, who will next play Sweden in the semifinal round on Friday. Cam Ward stopped 22 shots.
Morten Ask and Mathis Olimb each had a goal for Norway, which was in the quarterfinals for the first time since 1990. Pal Grotnes stopped 31 shots in the loss.
Norway had tied the game 5:32 into the second on Olimb's goal, but Toews scored less than five minutes later and Roy tallied twice to help Canada take a 5-2 lead into the third and they controlled play in the final frame, scoring three times.
