Thomas records shutout as USA tops Latvia

Tim Thomas stopped all 24 shots he faced and Dustin Brown scored the game-winning goal on a power play in the first period, as Team USA topped Latvia, 4-0, in the preliminary round of the 2008 World Hockey Championships.

Patrick Kane picked up a goal and two assists, while Zach Parise and Patrick O'Sullivan also scored for the Americans, who scored three times with the man- advantage and outshot Latvia 49-24.

Edgars Masalskis had his hands full in net, stopping 45-of-49 shots for Latvia in defeat.
